Jessica Kürten
Jessica Kürten (born 24 November 1969) is an Irish equestrian who competes in the sport of show jumping. Born Jessica Chesney, Kürten won several national pony championships as a youth. In 1994 Kürten married Eckard Kürten and moved to Hünxe in the German Rhineland. She has twice represented Ireland at the Olympic Games, 1996 Atlanta on ''Diamond's Exchange'' finishing 26th individually and team 8th and in 2004 Athens on ''Castle Forbes Maike'' finishing 18th individually. Rolex World ranking Kurten had been the highest ranked Irish rider (apart from October 2009 (Ranking no. 106), and January 2010 (Ranking no. 109), where Denis Lynch held the title) until July 2010 (Ranking no. 116) when Denis Lynch took over. She reached her highest ever World Ranking in April 2008 (No. 88) where she was the 2nd highest ranked rider in the world. Show jumping is a part of a group of English riding equestrian events that also includes dressage, eventing, hunters, and equitation. Jumping classes are commonly seen at horse shows throughout the world, including the Olympics. Sometimes shows are limited exclusively to jumpers. Show Jumping World Cup
The FEI Show Jumping World Cup is an annual international competition among the world’s best show jumping horses and riders. The series, created in 1978, today comprises 14 leagues on all continents. The best riders from 132 preliminary competitions qualify for the final. The FEI World Cup was thought up by a Swiss journalist and show jumping enthusiast, Max E. Ammann. From its inception until 1999 both the final and qualifiers were sponsored by Volvo. From 1999 to 2013, the series has been sponsored by Rolex. Longines has been the title sponsor of the series from October 2013. Approximately 45 riders qualify from 13 leagues around the world.
