Igo Sym
Karol Juliusz "Igo" Sym (3 July 1896 – 7 March 1941) was a Polish actor and collaborator with Nazi Germany. He was killed in Warsaw by members of the Polish resistance movement. Early career Sym was born in Innsbruck, the son of Anton Sym, a Pole from Niepołomice in Galicia, and his Austrian wife, Julia ( Sepp). During World War I he served in the Austro-Hungarian Army, becoming a lieutenant. After the war, he served in the Polish Armed Forces infantry in the rank of a First Lieutenant, until in 1921 he took up the job of a bank attorney. Sym's screen debut took place in 1925 with the role of Baron Kamiłow in the Polish silent film '' Vampires of Warsaw'' (of which no copy is known to exist). Handsome and athletic, he often played aristocrats and army officers. In 1927 he left for Vienna, where he signed a contract with the Sascha-Film production company. Marek Haltof (Józef Marek Haltof, born 1957 in Cieszyn, Poland,) is a professor of film studies. specializing in the cultural histories of Polish and Australian film. He studied at the University of Silesia (Uniwersytet Śląski) in Poland and at Flinders University of South Australia in Adelaide. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1995 from the University of Alberta with a Ph.D. dissertation ''When Cultures Collide: The Cinema of Peter Weir''. He received his ''habilitation'' in 2001 for ''Autor i kino artystyczne. Przypadek Paula Coxa'' (Author and Art Cinema: The Case of Paul Cox) from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. For several years he has taught at universities in Canada, including the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary, and since 2001 he is a professor at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. ''Border Street'' () is a 1948 Polish drama film directed by Aleksander Ford and starring Mieczysława Ćwiklińska, Jerzy Leszczyński (actor), Jerzy Leszczyński, Jerzy Złotnicki and Władysław Godik. The film depicts the Nazis' purge of Warsaw Jews by following the fates of five families, representative of the various social, political, and ethnic strata in Warsaw, through the war, and culminates in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Ford did not provide viewers a happy ending because he wanted "the viewer who watches it to realize that the issue of fascism and racial oppression is not over."
