The Ministry of Public Security (), was the secret police, intelligence and counter-espionage agency operating in the Polish People's Republic. Jerzy Popiełuszko ( born Alfons Popiełuszko; 14 September 1947 – 19 October 1984) was a Polish Roman Catholic priest who became associated with the opposition Solidarity trade union in communist Poland. He was murdered in 1984 by three agents of , who were shortly thereafter tried and convicted of the murder. Jerzy Pniewski (Polish: ; June 1, 1913 – June 16, 1989) was a Polish physicist, professor at the University of Warsaw and a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Jerzy Kuźmienko (born September 17 or 18 1931) was a Polish architect, urban planner and university teacher. Biography In 1965 Kuźmienko graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology with a degree in architecture, and stayed on teaching drawing from 1967 to 1973. In 1969, he became a member of the Polish Society of Urbanists. Jerzy Zdzisław Kulej (19 October 1940 – 13 July 2012) was a Polish Boxer (boxing), boxer, politician and sports commentator. He was a two-time Olympic and two-time European Champion. Józef Jerzy Kukuczka (; 24 March 1948 – 24 October 1989) was a Polish mountaineer, regarded as one of the greatest high-altitude climbers in history. In 1987, he became the second man (after Reinhold Messner) to climb all 14 eight-thousanders in the world, a feat known as the "Crown of the Himalayas." He accomplished this feat in less than eight years, and climbed all, except for Lhotse, by new routes or in winter. He is the only person to have climbed two eight-thousanders in one winter, and his ascents of Cho Oyu, Kangchenjunga and Annapurna were the first winter ascents.
