Jefferson Township is a former civil township in Cook County, Illinois, Cook County, Illinois, United States that existed as a separate municipality from 1850 until 1889 when it was annexed into the city of Chicago. During its brief history it developed from unpopulated wildlife to a largely rural community with a number of suburban villages. However, due to infrastructure limitations, legislative incentives and the lure of better municipal services it, along with numerous adjoining townships, agreed to be annexed into the city of Chicago, creating the largest city in the United States at that time. Hermosa is one of 77 designated Chicago community areas and is located on the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois. The Hermosa community area contains the Kelvyn Park and Hermosa neighborhoods. The area includes the birthplace of Walt Disney and is the former headquarters of the Schwinn Bicycle Company. While being one of the smaller community areas, Hermosa is one of the city's most densely populated neighborhoods. Today, Hermosa is a predominantly Hispanic blue collar community, with a sizable manufacturing base. Many of the people who reside in Hermosa have done so because of its convenient location to work, its relative proximity to downtown, and because of its healthy public transportation options. Norridge is a village in Leyden Township, Cook County, Illinois, Leyden Township, Cook County, Illinois, United States. The village and its neighbor to the east, Harwood Heights, Illinois, Harwood Heights, together form an enclave within the city of Chicago. Dunning is one of 77 officially designated Community areas of Chicago, community areas of the city of Chicago, Illinois. In 1851, the small, rural settlement that would later become Dunning, was chosen by the Cook County Board of Commissioners to be the site of Chicago's new Cook County Poor Farm, Illinois, Poorhouse and Insane Asylum. Often referred to as the Cook County Poor Farm, Illinois, County Poor Farm, the institution later expanded to include a separate insane asylum, potters field, tuberculosis hospital, schoolhouse and many support buildings. In 1865, the Dunning family bought 120 acres of land south of the Poor Farm. By 1882, the County Commissioners had built a train depot on the hospital grounds and arranged for a daily train to deliver supplies directly to the Poor Farm.
