Jefferson Branch Library, Los Angeles
Jefferson - Vassie D. Wright Memorial Branch Library is a branch library of the Los Angeles Public Library in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It was built in 1923 based on a Spanish Colonial Revival design by architect C.E. Noerenberg. In 1987, the Jefferson Branch and several other branch libraries in Los Angeles were added to the National Register of Historic Places as part of a thematic group submission.The Multiple Property Submission nomination explains 22 branch libraries but one, the University Branch, appears not to have been listed. The application noted that the branch libraries had been constructed in a variety of period revival styles to house the initial branch library system of the City of Los Angeles. Spanish Colonial Revival Architecture
The Spanish Colonial Revival architecture (), often known simply as Spanish Revival, is a term used to encompass a number of revivalist architectural styles based in both Spanish colonial architecture and Spanish architecture in general. These styles flourished throughout the Americas, especially in former Spanish colonies, from California to Argentina. In the United States, the earliest use of this style was in Florida, Texas, and California. St. Augustine, Florida was founded on September 8, 1565, by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, Florida's first governor. The city had served as the capital of Florida for over 250 years when Spain ceded Florida to the United States in 1819. By the late 1880s, St. Augustine was being developed by Henry M.
