Jedovnice
Jedovnice is a market town in the Blansko District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,800 inhabitants. Geography Jedovnice is located about east of Blansko and northeast of Brno. It lies in the Drahany Highlands. Small western part of the municipal territory lies in the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. Eastern part of the territory comprises the Rakovec Nature Reserve. Jedovnice lies on the Jedovnický Stream with a set of ponds. The largest of the ponds is Olšovec, which borders the built-up area. The pond was first mentioned in 1371. It has an area of and the length of the dam is . It is a major recreation centre. History The first written mention of Jedovnice is from 1251. In 1335, the settlement was promoted to a market town. Mikuláš Medek
Mikuláš Medek (3 November 1926, Prague – 23 August 1974, Prague) as a painter unites the artistic tradition of over three generations and thanks to the originality of his expression, depth and spirituality of his extraordinary work, he occupies one of the most prominent places in the Czech art history of the post-war period. Medek's entire work must be perceived in the context of the times, as it directly reflects the oppressive atmosphere of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia. He worked freely only for a short period between 1963 and 1969 and had only two exhibitions in Prague during his lifetime. He was the grandson of the impressionist Antonín Slavíček, the son of the general and writer Rudolf Medek and the brother of Ivan Medek. Medek's studio was one of the meeting centres for artists and art historians during the communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Aschheim
Aschheim is a small town and municipality in the district of Munich in Bavaria in Germany. It lies beyond the northeastern outskirts of Munich. Aschheim is the location of BMW's test track opened by the manufacturer in 1972, and also has a golf club, established in 1990. History The name "Aschheim" was first mentioned in 756/757 as "ascheim". In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria between 1808 and 1818, Aschheim and Dornach became independent political communities. Aschheim Central School was completed in 1813, and a larger building was built in 1905. In 1835, the Bavarian king was awarded the last estate in Aschheim. Linux Bier Wanderung
The Linux Beer Hike (a.k.a. "LBW") is a week-long event which takes place in a different European country each summer, drawing together open-source software enthusiasts from more than a dozen different countries, for a combination of talks, presentations, hands-on mini-projects, outdoor exercise, and good food and drink. The name Linux Bier Wanderung comes from the fact that the first event was held in Pottenstein in Germany (in 1999) in the form of a traditional German "Bierwanderung" for Linux enthusiasts. Městys
Městys (or, unofficially or obsolete, městečko (literally "small town")), translated as "market town", is a status conferred on certain municipalities in the Czech Republic, lying in terms of size and importance higher than that of simple '' obec'' (municipality), but lower than that of ''město'' (city, town). Historically a ''městys'' was a locality which had the right to stage livestock markets (and some other "extraordinary" and annual markets), and it is therefore translated as "market town". The term went out of official use in Czechoslovakia in 1954, but was reintroduced in the Czech Republic in 2006.
