The Jean Ferrand Trophy (french: Trophée Jean Ferrand) has been awarded to the best goaltender in the Ligue Magnus since 1978. It is named after Jean Ferrand, a former French ice hockey goaltender. Ligue Magnus
The Ligue Magnus, currently known as Synerglace Ligue Magnus for sponsorship reasons, is the top men's division of the French ice hockey pyramid, established in 1906. The league operated under a variety of names before taking that of its championship trophy, the Magnus Cup, in 2004. The trophy was in turn named for Frenchman and IIHF founder Louis Magnus. Format 12 teams play a 44-game regular season. The schedule is fully balanced and there are no geographic conferences. Regulation wins are worth 3 points, as per international rules. The top 8 teams qualify for the Magnus Cup playoffs, with all series contested in a best-of-seven format. The remaining 4 teams play a 6-game round-robin, at the end of which the last-place team is relegated. The Magnus Cup champions qualify for the following season's Champions Hockey League. Jeff Lerg
Jeff Lerg (born April 9, 1986) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the North American minor league, most notably for the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL, and in Europe. Playing career Prior to his college hockey career, Lerg played for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL. He led the league in shutouts, GAA, wins, minutes played and ranked second in save percentage. Lerg broke the USHL record for wins in a season with 36 in helping lead Omaha to a share of the regular-season title. Lerg joined the Michigan State Spartans in 2005 and was named CCHA Rookie of the Year for his outstanding performance as a freshman. He was a member of Michigan State's 2007 NCAA Championship team where he held a 1.25 GAA and .954 save percentage in the tournament. In 2008, he was selected as a finalist for the James E. Billy Thompson (ice Hockey)
Billy Thompson (born September 24, 1982) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. Career Thompson made his junior hockey debut in the 1998–99 season with the Prince George Cougars of the WHL, although he only played part of one game. He started one more game the following season. For three seasons between 2000 and 2003, he played 149 games with the Cougars, compiling a win-loss record of 64 wins and 69 losses. He was drafted in the 5th round (136th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers. On October 1, 2002, the Panthers traded him to the Ottawa Senators along with Greg Watson for goaltender Jani Hurme. He made his professional hockey debut that season with the AHL's Binghamton Senators, winning the sole game he played. Thompson served as the backup to Ray Emery for the next two seasons at Binghamton. He played 34 games each year with a total record of 32 and 22 in that span. The 2011–12 Ligue Magnus season was the 91st season of the Ligue Magnus, the top level of ice hockey in France. Fourteen teams participated in the league, and Dragons de Rouen won both the regular season title, and the Coupe Magnus, the postseason championship that earned the team the title "Champions of France". The Scorpions de Mulhouse were elevated to the league from Division 1 at the end of the season, and the Bisons de Neuilly-sur-Marne were relegated to Division 1 after finishing the regular season with only three wins and losing the relegation playoff with the Ours de Villard-de-Lans.
