Jean-René Akono
Jean René Akono (born 4 August 1967) is a Cameroonian male volleyball player and coach. He was part of the Cameroon men's national volleyball team in over 100 games, including its 1989 victory at the African Championship. He played for Amacam in his club career. Akono later became coach of the Cameroon women's national volleyball team. He coached the women's team at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the program at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. Basic play The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. Cameroon Women's National Volleyball Team
The Cameroon women's national volleyball team represents Cameroon in international women's volleyball competitions and friendly matches. The team is one of the leading nations in women's volleyball on the African continent. The team played in the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Italy, after securing a ticket by winning the African Pool T qualifiers with the best win–loss ratio. Cameroon lastly qualified for the 2021 Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship where it won the gold medal.
