Jax-Ur
Jax-Ur is a supervillain appearing in comic books published by DC Comics, usually as an adversary of Superman. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist George Papp, the character first appeared in ''Adventure Comics'' #289 (October 1961). He has been described as "the worst troublemaker in the Phantom Zone" and was the first criminal banished there. Fictional character biography Pre-Crisis Jax-Ur was an amoral and criminally deviant scientist on the planet Krypton. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Phantom Zone for destroying Wegthor, a sparsely inhabited moon of Krypton, while experimenting with a nuclear warhead. In his first appearance, Jax-Ur escaped from the Phantom Zone and posed as a super-powered version of Jonathan Kent. Superboy eventually sent Jax-Ur back to the Phantom Zone. The Phantom Zone is a prison-like parallel dimension appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. It is mainly associated with stories featuring Superman. It first appeared in ''Adventure Comics'' #283 (April 1961), and was created by Robert Bernstein (comics), Robert Bernstein and George Papp. It was frequently used in the ''Superman'' comics before the continuity was rebooted in the 1980s after ''Crisis on Infinite Earths'' and has appeared occasionally since. Fictional history Pre-''Crisis'' The Phantom Zone is a "pocket universe" used as a humane method of imprisonment due to Krypton abolishing the death penalty years prior. The inmates of the Phantom Zone reside in a ghost-like state of existence from which they can observe, but cannot interact with, the regular universe. General Zod
General Zod is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly as an List of Superman enemies, adversary of the superhero Superman. The character, who first appeared in ''Adventure Comics'' #283 (April 1961), was created by Robert Bernstein (comics), Robert Bernstein and initially designed by George Papp. As a Krypton (comics), Kryptonian, he exhibits the same powers and abilities as Superman and is consequently viewed as one of his greatest enemies alongside Lex Luthor, Darkseid, and Brainiac (character), Brainiac. Black Zero
Black Zero is a name shared by two supervillains, two terrorist organizations, one special forces group, and a computer virus that have all appeared in various comic book series published by DC Comics. Fictional character biography Original Black Zero The original Black Zero solely appeared in ''Superman'' #205 (1968), and was created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino. He is a space saboteur who destroys planets and was hired to destroy Krypton by maintaining pressure in its core. In the present, Black Zero comes to Earth, threatening to destroy it as he did Krypton. In desperation, Superman releases Jax-Ur, a prisoner of the Phantom Zone, who wishes to avenge Krypton's destruction. After launching a missile toward Earth, Black Zero attacks Jax-Ur with red kryptonite, mutating him into a Gorgon-like form. Jax-Ur then petrifies Black Zero with his gaze and shatters his body. Krypton (comics)
Krypton is a fictional planet appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, most commonly appearing or mentioned in stories starring the superhero Superman as the world from where he came. The planet was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and was named after the chemical element krypton. The planet was first mentioned in ''Action Comics'' #1 (June 1938) and made its first appearance in ''Superman'' #1 (1939). Krypton is also the homeworld of Supergirl, Krypto the Superdog, Beppo the Super-Monkey, Power Girl (in her case, an alternate-universe version designated "Krypton-Two"), and the supervillain General Zod.
