Jasmine Costello
Jason Costello (previously Jasmine Costello) is a fictional character from the Television in the United Kingdom, British Channel 4 soap opera ''Hollyoaks'', played by Victoria Atkin. The character debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 2 August 2010 and was introduced by series producer Paul Marquess as a member of the yet to be established Costello family. Jason is a transgender boy, and the first character in the soap opera to experience gender dysphoria. Originally introduced as Jasmine, the character eventually reveals that he wishes to be known as Jason, and legally changes his name. Jason's storyline prominently explores the secrecy and trials of his romantic relationship with Bart McQueen (Jonny Clarke), a straight character who originally developed an attraction to Jason as Jasmine. Victoria Atkin
Victoria Atkin is a British actress who has played roles in ''Extinct'', '' Assassin's Creed: Syndicate'', and ''Hollyoaks'', the last of which she has won several awards for in her portrayal of Jason Costello. Early years and education Atkin attended Fernhill School and Language College,and Farnborough Sixth Form College, studied Dance and Theatre Performance at The University of Chichester in 2008, and took a postgraduate course in Musical Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2009. Career Originally training as a slalom skier, Atkin landed her first major television appearance and series regular role, shortly after graduating from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in Swiss Cottage in London. She was cast as the first fictional transgender teenager on British television, completing 134 episodes in the role in the series ''Hollyoaks'' and ''Hollyoaks Later''.
