Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends. The player can induce a curved path, described as ''curl'', by causing the stone to slowly rotate as it slides. Curling At The 2010 Winter Olympics
The curling competition of the 2010 Olympics was held at Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre in Vancouver. It is the fifth time that curling was on the Olympic program, after having been staged in 1924, 1998, 2002 and 2006. For the 2010 Winter Olympics the competition followed the same format that was used during the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, with 10 teams playing a round robin tournament, from which the top four teams advance to the semi-finals. The women's competition concluded on Friday, February 26, 2010. In the bronze medal match, the Chinese team made history by becoming the first team from Asia to win an Olympic curling medal. The gold medal match was one of the closest medal games in Olympic competition. Irene Schori
Irene Schori (born 4 December 1983) is a Swiss curler from Bremgarten. She currently plays third on Team Michèle Jäggi. Career Schori was named to the Swiss Olympic Team in 2010. She served as the alternate for Mirjam Ott's team in Vancouver. They just missed winning a medal, finishing fourth. Schori has participated in both the 2008 and the 2009 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships with partner Toni Müller, and has taken gold at both of these championships. Schori and Müller were the heavy favorites to win in the 2010 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, but were eliminated by the China in an extra end in the quarterfinals. In an interview post-match, Schori stated that she and Müller would consider not attending next year to give a chance to other Swiss teams. Schori played with Silvana Tirinzoni from 2009–2012 before joining the Binia Feltscher rink. Carmen Küng (born 30 January 1978) is a curler from Solothurn, Switzerland. Carmen Küng began her senior elite career as the Third for 2002 Olympic Silver medalist Luzia Ebnöther during the 2006–2007 season. (During this season future Olympic teammate Carmen Schäfer threw second stones.) She would later move to the team of Silvana Tirinzoni for the 2008–2009 season. In the following season she joined her current team. Initially she joined Mirjam Ott's team as the Alternate and served in that capacity at both the 2008 and 2009 World Championships. Starting with the 2009–2010 competitive season Carmen Küng has played as the Second for Team Ott.
