Jan Lucák
Jan Lucák (20 July 1912 – 10 March 1997) was a Czech motorcycle speedway rider. He was capped by the Czechoslovak national speedway team. Career Lucák was born on 20 July 1912 in Strýčkovice. He began a career connected with racing when he took on an apprenticeship at the Prague company of the Šulc brothers, who imported British motorcycles of the BSA brand. He participated in his first race at the age of 20 at a competition in Tábor. He also raced road racing and speedway. In the 1930s, he was a factory driver for the Ogar company and in 1935 he competed in the Swedish Grand Prix on a Velocette motorcycle. In 1935, he was the first winner of the 300-turn race in Hořice on an Ogar motorcycle in the 250 class. He became a Jawa factory rider in 1940, but World War II interrupted his activities. The Czech Republic Individual Speedway Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held each year to determine the Czech Republic national champion. History It was first staged in 1949, and was known as the Czechoslovakia Individual Speedway Championship until 1992, when the country then divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Golden Helmet Of Pardubice
The Golden Helmet of Pardubice (Czech: Zlatá přilba) is a motorcycle speedway competition hosted annually in Pardubice, the Czech Republic. It is the oldest motorcycle speedway race in Europe and is considered prestigious. History The race was established by three motorsport enthusiasts František Hladěna, Adolf Trnka and Ladislav Polák in 1929. The first 15 events of the Golden Helmet race were held on the long turf racetrack of Velká pardubická Steeplechase in Pardubice, from 1929 to 1963. On several occasions the event attracted more than 100,000 fans, but also five riders suffered mortal injuries competing on this dangerous grass track. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Czechoslovakia National Speedway Team
The Czechoslovakia national speedway team were one of the teams that competed in international team motorcycle speedway. History The Czechoslovakian speedway team (which consisted predominantly of Czech Republic riders) competed in the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup during the 1960 Speedway World Team Cup and won the bronze medal after finishing third in the final. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1960 until their final World Cup in 1992. They reached the final on fourteen occasions, winning the silver medal in 1963 and two more bronze medals in 1977 and 1979. The 1950 Individual Speedway World Championship was the fifth edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. The title was won by Welshman Freddie Williams with the pivotal heat being the heat against Australian Graham Warren. Warren and Williams both unbeaten met in their third rides and as Warren challenged Williams for the lead he was forced to drop behind Williams.
