Jamia Hamdard
Jamia Hamdard is an institute of higher education deemed to be university located in Delhi, India. Founded in 1963 as Hamdard Tibbi College by Hakim Abdul Hameed, it was given the status of deemed to be university in 1989. Its origins can be traced back to a clinic specializing in Unani medicine that was set up in Delhi in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed. In 2019, it was awarded Institute of Eminence status by Ministry of Human Resource Development. Hakim Abdul Hameed
Hakim Abdul Hameed (; 14 September 1908 – 22 July 1999) was an Indian physician of the traditional medicine system of Unani, the founder chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, and a former chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. His ancestors came from Kashgar (now Kashi, Xinjiang, China) to the Indian subcontinent, in the reign of the Mughal emperor, Shah Alam. He was the founder and chief trustee of Hamdard Laboratories. He was honoured by the Government of India in 1965, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award and in 1992, the government awarded him the third highest Indian honour of Padma Bhushan. National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a ranking methodology released annually by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The framework was approved by the former Ministry of Human Resource Development (now the Ministry of Education) and launched by the Minister on 29 September 2015.
