James Ritchie (naturalist)
James Ritchie CBE PRSE (27 May 1882 – 19 October 1958) was a Scottish naturalist and archaeologist, who was Professor of Natural History at the University of Edinburgh 1936–52 and President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 1952–1958. Life He was born on 27 May 1882 in Port Elphinstone in Aberdeenshire the son of James Ritchie, the local schoolmaster. He was educated at Gordon's College in Aberdeen then studied Science at Aberdeen University. In 1916 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposers were Sir Thomas Carlaw Martin, James Cossar Ewart, James Hartley Ashworth and Cargill Gilston Knott. He won the Society's Keith Prize for the period 1941–43. He served as Secretary 1928–31; Vice President 1931–34, 1940–43 and 1951–54; and President 1954–58. James Dale Ritchie
James Dale Ritchie (November 4, 1976 – November 12, 2016) was an American serial killer. Throughout 2016, Ritchie murdered upwards of five individuals in and around Anchorage, Alaska, Anchorage, Alaska, most of whom were in parks or along bike paths. He always committed his murders at night, often around midnight or a short time after. Ritchie was killed during a shootout with police officers in downtown Anchorage on November 12, 2016. Following his death, a Colt Python handgun on his person connected him to the string of murders he committed over the course of two months. James Martin Comrie Ritchie, FCMI, FRSA (29 May 1917 – 3 June 1993) was the chairman and chief executive of Bowater Paper Corporation from 1969 to 1972. At the time Bowater's was the world's largest newsprint producer. Early life James Martin Ritchie was educated at Strathallan School in Perthshire, Scotland. In 1934 he joined the family firm, Andrew Ritchie and Son Ltd, based in Glasgow, becoming a director in 1938. The company manufactured corrugated fiber containers. In 1938 he joined the Territorial Army as an officer. During World War II Ritchie served with a British Army Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment and was promoted captain in 1941. In 1943 he passed staff college and from 1944-1945 served as Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General with Middle East Command. Sir James Thomson Ritchie, 1st Baronet (21 September 1833 – 18 September 1912) was a Scottish businessman who was the 576th Lord Mayor of London. He was born in Angus, the second son of William Ritchie, a landed proprietor, of Rockhill House, Broughty Ferry, Forfarshire, head of the firm of William Ritchie & Son of London and Dundee, East India merchants, jute spinners, and manufacturers. His younger brother would be ennobled as Charles Ritchie, 1st Baron Ritchie of Dundee. James became a partner in his father's business, based in London. James Ritchie & Son are a firm of Clockmakers in Broxburn, West Lothian, Scotland. The company was established in 1809 and is Scotland's oldest turret clock manufacturer. The firm produces and maintains all sorts of clocks, including public clocks. The company is contracted to wind, set, repair and clean many of the public clocks in Edinburgh and since 2015 has converted many of the city's clocks windings to automatic mechanisms. History The clockmakers was established by James Ritchie in 1809 at 29 Leith Street. In 1819, the company acquired the clockmaking business of another Edinburgh clockmaker, Joseph Durward.
