James Daly, 1st Baron Dunsandle And Clanconal
James Daly, 1st Baron Dunsandle and Clanconal (1 April 1782 – 7 August 1847) was an Irish politician. Background Daly was the eldest son of Denis Daly (Galway politician), Denis Daly and Lady Henrietta, daughter of Robert Maxwell, 1st Earl of Farnham and Henrietta Cantillon, widow of the 3rd Earl of Stafford. The Right Reverend Robert Daly (bishop), Robert Daly was his younger brother. Education Daly was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Political career Daly was elected Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament for Galway Borough (UK Parliament constituency), Galway in 1805, a seat he held until 1811. In 1812 he was returned for County Galway (UK Parliament constituency), County Galway, a constituency he represented until 1830 and again from 1832 to 1835. Denis Daly (Galway Politician)
Denis Daly (1748 – 10 October 1791) of Carrownakelly and Dunsandle Castle, Loughrea, County Galway, was an Irish landowner and politician. Biography His father was James Daly of Carrownakelly and Dunsandle Castle in County Galway, and his mother was Catherine Gore, daughter of Sir Ralph Gore, 4th Baronet and his second wife Elizabeth Ashe. He was the eldest of five sons. His siblings included St George Daly, judge of the Court of King's Bench (Ireland). He was the great-grandson of Denis Daly, judge of the Court of Common Pleas (Ireland). Though traditionally Roman Catholics, and of Gaelic origin, the Dalys had been able to hold on to their lands by converting to the Protestant faith and forsaking their allegiance to the Stuart dynasty. Baron Dunsandle And Clanconal
Baron Dunsandle and Clanconal, of Dunsandle in the County of Galway, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 6 June 1845 for James Daly, who had earlier represented Galway Borough and County Galway in the House of Commons. He was succeeded by his eldest son, the second Baron. He sat in the House of Lords as an Irish representative peer. He had no legitimate male issue and was succeeded by his younger brother, the third Baron. He died unmarried and was succeeded by his nephew, the fourth Baron. He was the son of the Hon. Robert Daly, youngest son of the first Baron. Lord Dunsandle and Clanconal was Assistant Private Secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli between 1874 and 1880. He never married and the title became extinct on his death on 25 November 1911. Thomas Barnwall Martin
Thomas Barnwall Martin (1784 – April 1847) was an Irish landowner and politician. Martin was the eldest surviving son of Richard Martin, humanitarian and member of parliament for County Galway, by his first wife Elizabeth Vesey. Following an unhappy conclusion to a love affair with the daughter of a local chandler, Thomas left home to join the army. He served at the Siege of Badajoz (1812), Spain in 1812, where he was wounded severely. Despite a personal commendation by the Duke of Wellington himself, Martin returned to Ireland where he later married, inherited the family estate centred at Ballynahinch Castle in Connemara, and successfully campaigned for his father's former seat in Parliament in 1832 and served in this position until his death. Colonel Sir John Burke, 2nd Baronet, DL (1782 – 14 September 1847) was an Irish soldier and Whig politician who was MP for County Galway (1830–2) and High Sheriff of County Galway (1838–9).
