Jakub PaÅ›
Jakub Paś (born 27 September 1977) is a Polish scientist and developer. He is a doctor of chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Early years Paś was born in 1977 in Śrem. He attended No. 4 Primary School in Śrem and the Józef Wybicki High School in Śrem; at that time, he succeeded as a laureate of Polish Mathematics Olympiad. In 2001, he was awarded the MSc in Biotechnology title at the Faculty of Biochemistry of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań; his thesis ''Sequential and structural analysis of proteins related to the BcFA (methyl branched-chain fatty acids)'', supervised by Leszek Rychlewski, was awarded distinction in of that year. In 2013, he defended his PhD thesis in chemistry, ''Application and implementation of probabilistic profile-profile comparison methods for protein fold recognition'' (under the supervision of Marcin Hoffmann). Åšrem
Śrem () is a town on the Warta river in central Poland. It is the seat of Śrem County in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. As of 1995, the population of Śrem was 29,800. Śrem is to the south of Poznań, a local road junction on the road from Poznań to Rawicz; other roads lead from the town to Września, Leszno and Głuchowo, Kościan County, Głuchowo. The Śrem District has a population of 39,672, of which about 31,000 live in the town of Śrem. Intermolecular Force
An intermolecular force (IMF; also secondary force) is the force that mediates interaction between molecules, including the electromagnetic forces of attraction or repulsion which act between atoms and other types of neighbouring particles (e.g. atoms or ions). Intermolecular forces are weak relative to intramolecular forces – the forces which hold a molecule together. Molecular Geometry
Molecular geometry is the three-dimensional arrangement of the atoms that constitute a molecule. It includes the general shape of the molecule as well as bond lengths, bond angles, torsional angles and any other geometrical parameters that determine the position of each atom. Molecular geometry influences several properties of a substance including its reactivity, polarity, phase of matter, color, magnetism and biological activity. Fold Recognition
In molecular biology, protein threading, also known as fold recognition, is a method of protein modeling which is used to model those proteins which have the same fold as proteins of known structures, but do not have homologous proteins with known structure. It differs from the homology modeling method of structure prediction as it (protein threading) is used for proteins which do not have their homologous protein structures deposited in the Protein Data Bank (PDB), whereas homology modeling is used for those proteins which do. Threading works by using statistical knowledge of the relationship between the structures deposited in the PDB and the sequence of the protein which one wishes to model. GPGPU
General-purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU, or less often GPGP) is the use of a graphics processing unit (GPU), which typically handles computation only for computer graphics, to perform computation in applications traditionally handled by the central processing unit (CPU). The use of multiple video cards in one computer, or large numbers of graphics chips, further parallelizes the already parallel nature of graphics processing. Essentially, a GPGPU pipeline is a kind of parallel processing between one or more GPUs and CPUs that analyzes data as if it were in image or other graphic form. The ISC High Performance, formerly known as the International Supercomputing Conference, is a yearly conference on supercomputing which has been held in Europe since 1986. It stands as the oldest supercomputing conference in the world.
