Jackson Township is one of twelve townships in Jackson County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 20,042 and it contained 8,741 housing units. History Bell Ford Post Patented Diagonal "Combination Bridge", Low Spur Archeological Site (12J87), and Sand Hill Archeological Site 12J62 are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Freeman Municipal Airport
Freeman Municipal Airport is a public use airport located two nautical miles (4 km) southwest of the central business district of Seymour, a city in Jackson County, Indiana, United States. It is owned by the Seymour Airport Authority. This airport is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2021–2025, which categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. History Established by the United States Army Air Forces in 1942, it became first USAAF helicopter training school in June 1944. Black aviators, including a group of Tuskegee Airmen, trained at Freeman Field. In April 1945, several black officers tried to integrate an officers' club resulting in what became known as the " Freeman Field Mutiny". The mutiny is generally regarded by historians of the Civil Rights Movement as an important step toward full integration of the armed forces and as a model for later efforts to integrate public facilities through civil disobedience. Interstate 65 (I-65) in the US state of Indiana traverses from the south-southeastern Falls City area bordering Louisville, Kentucky, through the centrally located capital city of Indianapolis, to the northwestern Calumet Region of the Hoosier State which is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Indiana portion of I-65 begins in Jeffersonville after crossing the Ohio River and travels mainly north, passing just west of Columbus prior to reaching the Indianapolis metro area.
