Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,323 at the 2020 census. History For centuries, many indigenous peoples called this area home, including the Cheyenne, Ioway, and Dakota tribes. In 1851, the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux opened the region to white settlement in exchange for government payments. Jackson was originally called Springfield, and was laid out under that name in 1856. The first settlers in what is now Jackson County—William, George, and Charles Wood—established a trading post near the Des Moines River around the same time. A post office called Jackson has been in operation since 1858. On March 26, 1857, the Wahpekute Dakota Chief Inkpaduta and his band attacked the settlement in the Spirit Lake Massacre. Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Ohio, United States about southeast of Chillicothe. Its population was 6,252 at the 2020 census. It is the principal city of the Jackson, Ohio micropolitan area, which consists of Jackson County. History Established in 1817, residents named the town after Andrew Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812, and an eventual president of the United States. The community grew slowly, having only 297 inhabitants in 1840. In 1846, Jackson had four churches, about seven stores, and a single newspaper office. Over the next 40 years, the town grew quickly, attaining a population of 3,021 people in 1880. By 1880, two railroad lines passed through the community, helping to spur economic and population growth. In 1886, two newspaper offices, eight churches, and two banks existed in Jackson. Jackson is a town in Northampton County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Northampton County. Jackson is part of the Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The town of Jackson traces its origins to the creation of Northampton County in 1741 by the Colonial Assembly of North Carolina. The location was chosen to be a central site for the courthouse. Initially known as Northampton Courthouse, the area began to develop around the courthouse square. By 1762, Jeptha Atherton had purchased the courthouse lands, and by 1798, the area had a tavern and a storehouse. Jackson is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,028 at the 2020 census, up from 816 at the 2010 census. Jackson is a resort area in the White Mountains. Parts of the White Mountain National Forest are in the west, north and east. History Once consisting of several large land grants by colonial Governor John Wentworth, the town was first named "New Madbury", after the seacoast town of Madbury. In 1772, a road was built through Pinkham Notch, and the area was first settled in 1778 by Benjamin Copp and his family. In 1800, the community was renamed in honor of President John Adams, who was then in office. Jackson is a village in Dakota County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Sioux City, IA–NE– SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 223 at the 2010 census. History Prior to the establishment of Jackson, the townsite of Old St. John's was settled approximately 1.5 miles north of the current site of Jackson on June 2, 1856, by a Catholic colony of sixty Irish immigrants led by Father Trecy. The colony was one of the first towns settled in Dakota County, and the first Catholic parish in Nebraska. When the rising Missouri River began to threaten the town around 1860, all of the residents of Old St. John's moved south to what is now known as Jackson. Jackson was originally called Franklin, and under the latter name was laid out in about 1860. When it was discovered there was another post office in the state with the name Franklin, the community was renamed in honor of Andrew Jackson in order to avoid repetition.
