Jaan Künnap
Jaan Künnap (born 9 February 1948, in Kõue) is an Estonian mountaineer, photographer, and sports coach. Biography Künnap went to school in Kose, as well as in Tallinn, where he has lived since 1969. In 1971–1994 he worked as a deep-sea diver on a rescue ship. During this time he logged over 3,000 hours of diving time and recorded depths of up to 80 m. The Order of the Estonian Red Cross (; ) was instituted in 1920 by the Estonian Red Cross Society. The Order of the Estonian Red Cross is bestowed in order to give recognition for humanitarian services rendered in the interests of the Estonians, Estonian people and for the saving of life. Classes The Order of the Estonian Red Cross comprises six classes: * Five basic classes – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th class; * One medal class. The crosses of all basic classes of the Order of the Estonian Red Cross have the same design. Reef Knot
The reef knot, or square knot, is an ancient and simple binding knot used to secure a rope or line around an object. It is sometimes also referred to as a Hercules knot or Heracles knot. The knot is formed by tying a left-handed overhand knot between two ends, instead of around one end, and then a right-handed overhand knot via the same procedure, or vice versa. A common mnemonic for this procedure is "right over left; left over right", which is often appended with the rhyming suffix "... makes a knot both tidy and tight". Two consecutive overhands tied as described above of the same handedness will make a granny knot. The working ends of the reef knot must emerge both at the top or both at the bottom, otherwise a thief knot results. Tuhala Witch's Well
Tuhala Witch's Well () is a karst spring in Kose Parish, Harju County, Estonia that overflows after heavy rains. In Estonian folklore, it is said to be caused by witches lashing each other underground. In 2012 the Tuhala Witch's Well was voted as a "Wonder of Estonia". Kalju-Hillar Suur (18 February 1928 Tallinn – 13 November 2013) was an Estonian photographer. 1981-1994 he was photoreporter of the newspaper '' Sirp ja Vasar''. He established Tallinn Photo Club and the photographical collective Stodom. In 1995 he established the publishing house Suurkalju. He participated over 150 international photo exhibitions. Peak Korzhenevskaya
Peak Ozodi (), (until 2020 Korzhenevskoi Peak, ) is the third highest peak in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan. Baltic Way
The Baltic Way (; ; ) or Baltic Chain (also "Chain of Freedom") was a peaceful political demonstration that occurred on 23 August 1989. Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning across the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which at the time were occupied and annexed by the USSR and had a combined population of approximately eight million. The central government in Moscow considered the three Baltic countries constituent republics of the Soviet Union. The demonstration originated in " Black Ribbon Day" protests held in the western cities in the 1980s. It marked the 50th anniversary of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, in which Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Romania were (as "spheres of influence") divided between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. Ismail Samani Peak
Ismoil Somoni Peak (; ) is the highest mountain in Tajikistan, as well as the former Russian Empire and Soviet Union before Tajikistan's independence. The mountain is named after Ismail Samani, a ruler of the Samanid Empire, Samanid dynasty. It is located in the Pamir Mountains, Pamir Range.
