''JK 1971'' or ''1971 et Kay'' is a 2023 Bangladeshi period drama film directed by Fakhrul Arefeen Khan and produced by Gorai Films. It is the first English-language Bangladeshi film about the Bangladesh liberation war that features Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Subhra Sourav Das in lead role. The film is based on the PIA flight PK712 hijacking. Premise On 3 December 1971, Jean Eugene Paul Kay, a French citizen, hijacked a Boeing 720 owned by Pakistan International Airlines at Orly Airport. He demanded that the government of France sent 20 tons of relief and medicines to the camps of East Bengali refugees in India and people of East Pakistan in the support of the Bangladesh liberation war. PIA Flight PK712 Hijacking
On 3 December 1971, Jean Eugene Paul Kay, a 28 year old French humanitarian activist, hijacked Pakistan International Airlines Flight PK712 (a Boeing 720), at Orly Airport outside Paris, France. The West German Chancellor Willy Brandt and French President Georges Pompidou met one-on-one in Paris that same day. All of the security personnel were focused on ensuring the safety of these VIPs, including the West German chancellor and his entourage, who had just arrived at the airport. During this hightened security Jean Kay and his fellow hijackers managed to board the aircraft. The flight was bound from London to Karachi via Paris, Rome and Cairo. The pilots were about to take off for Rome when Kay gave them an order to turn off the engines at gunpoint. He yelled at the crew and pilots, threatening to blow up the aircraft if they disobeyed him. Kay immediately grabbed the captain's wireless set and connected to the airport control tower. ''The Daily Ittefaq'' (, Bangla pronunciation: ) is a Bengali-language daily newspaper. Founded in 1949 by Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and Yar Mohammad Khan, it is the oldest and one of the most circulated newspapers in Bangladesh. The newspaper format is broadsheet, and is printed by Ittefaq Group of Publications Limited. Pre-1971 ''Ittefaq'' was initially published weekly. Dhaka International Film Festival () is a biennial film festival held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
