Italian Submarine Brin
''Brin'' was a built for and operated by Italy's ''Regia Marina'' during World War II. History When Italy declared war in June 1940, ''Brin'' was the sole vessel in the 42nd Squadron of the Italian submarine fleet. At the end of 1940, ''Brin'', captained by Luigi Longanesi-Cattani, became one of several Italian submarines that operated in the Atlantic, based in Bordeaux (BETASOM) under German command. In the early hours of 18 December 1940 she was attacked by the British submarine with torpedoes and gunfire in the Bay of Biscay, about east of the Gironde estuary. ''Brin'' was undamaged and escaped. On 13 June 1941 she made three torpedo attacks on convoy SL75, succeeding in sinking two ships, the Greek ''Eirini Kyriakides'' (3,781 tons) and the British ''Djurdjura'' (3,460 tons). Cantieri Navali Tosi Di Taranto
The Cantieri navali Tosi di Taranto (Tosi Shipyard at Taranto) is a defunct Italian shipyard founded in 1914 by engineering company Franco Tosi & C. Between World War I and World War II it specialized in building submarines. The company never really recovered from the devastation from World War II and it was one of the first acquisitions of the newly formed financial holding company, Fincantieri, on 29 December 1959. Operation Pedestal ( it, Battaglia di Mezzo Agosto, Battle of mid-August), known in Malta as (), was a British operation to carry supplies to the island of Malta in August 1942, during the Second World War. Malta was a base from which British ships, submarines and aircraft attacked Axis convoys to Libya, during the North African Campaign (1940–1943). From 1940 to 1942, the Axis conducted the Siege of Malta, with air and naval forces. Despite many losses, enough supplies were delivered by the British for the population and military forces on Malta to resist, although it ceased to be an offensive base for much of 1942. The most crucial supply item in Operation Pedestal was fuel, carried by , an American tanker with a British crew.
