Italian Democratic Socialists
The Italian Democratic Socialists ( it, Socialisti Democratici Italiani, SDI) were a social-democratic political party in Italy. The party was the direct continuation of the Italian Socialists, the legal successor of the historical Italian Socialist Party. Also, the Italian Democratic Socialist Party, the other long-time Italian social-democratic party, was merged into it. The party's long-time leader was Enrico Boselli, a former President of Emilia-Romagna (1990–1993). In 2007, the SDI were merged with other descendants of the PSI to form the modern-day Italian Socialist Party. Italian Socialists
The Italian Socialists ( it, Socialisti Italiani, SI) were a minor social-democratic political party in Italy active from 1994 to 1998. The party was the legal successor of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI), following its dissolution by the 47th Party Congress due to the severe financial crisis following the ''Tangentopoli'' scandal. A minoritarian group of the congress, who proposed an autonomist and centrist solution against the PSI dissolution, instead founded the Reformist Socialist Party. A legal successor of an organization is a successor entity legally declared and recognized as such in all or some respects. Laws governing legal succession may be different for legal successors of business and non-profits, as well as in historical sense. 1999 European Parliament Election In Italy
The 1999 European Parliament election in Italy was the election of the delegation from Italy to the European Parliament in 1999. Electoral system The pure party-list proportional representation was the traditional electoral system of the Italian Republic since its foundation in 1946, so it had been adopted to elect the Italian representatives to the European Parliament too. Two levels were used: a national level to divide seats between parties, and a constituency level to distribute them between candidates. Italian regions were united in 5 constituencies, each electing a group of deputies. At national level, seats were divided between party lists using the largest remainder method with Hare quota. All seats gained by each party were automatically distributed to their local open lists and their most voted candidates. Bobo Craxi
Vittorio Michele Craxi, commonly known as Bobo Craxi (born 6 August 1964), is an Italian politician, son of the former Italian Prime Minister Bettino Craxi and brother of Stefania Craxi. Biography Formerly a prominent member of the Italian Socialist Party and Socialist League, he was a founder of the New Italian Socialist Party in 2001. He has been elected MP at the Chamber of Deputies of Italy for the riding of Trapani in the 2001 general election in the House of Freedoms centre-right coalition, serving until 2006. Claudio Martelli
Claudio Martelli (born 24 September 1943) is an Italian politician. He was the right-hand man of Bettino Craxi, the socialist Prime Minister from 1983–1987. Biography Martelli was born at Gessate, in the province of Milan. He graduated in Philosophy and joined the Italian Socialist Party in 1966. In 1976, he was called by the leader of the party, Bettino Craxi, to continue his career in Rome. Socialist League (Italy)
The Socialist League ( it, Lega Socialista, LS) was a tiny social-democratic party in Italy, founded by Bobo Craxi on 10 May 2000. The Socialist League was already operating as a faction within the Italian Democratic Socialists (SDI), of which the LS was a founding member in 1998. A year later, Craxi was an unsuccessful SDI candidate in the 1999 European Parliament election, while Claudio Martelli was elected and later appointed SDI deputy leader. In June 2000 both Craxi and Martelli left the SDI. In January 2001 the LS was merged with the Socialist Party to form the New Italian Socialist Party, allied with the centre-right coalition. Ugo Intini (born 30 June 1941) is an Italian journalist and politician. Biography A long-time member of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) and close aide of Bettino Craxi, he was spokesman of the PSI and representative of the party in the Socialist International. The Socialist Party ( it, Partito Socialista, PS) was a tiny social-democratic political party in Italy. The party was founded in 1996 by a group of former members of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) who had been close allies of Bettino Craxi, former Prime Minister of Italy and leader of the PSI from 1976 to 1992, and who did not join the Italian Socialists of Enrico Boselli. They included Ugo Intini, Enrico Manca, Gianni De Michelis, Fabrizio Cicchitto, Margherita Boniver, Donato Robilotta and Craxi's son, Bobo. Labour Federation (Italy)
The Labour Federation ( it, Federazione Laburista, FL) was a social-democratic political party in Italy. The party's leader and founder was Valdo Spini. The FL was founded by members of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) in November 1994, a few days before the PSI's dissolution, and entered into a close alliance with the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS). At its foundation the FL included eleven deputies and seven senators. In the 1996 general election, in which the party was a component of The Olive Tree, the party obtained six deputies and five senators. In February 1998 the FL was merged with the PDS and some minor parties from the centre-left coalition (the Social Christians, Republican Left, etc.) into the Democrats of the Left (DS). Giorgio Carta (politician)
Giorgio Carta (16 January 1938 – 28 October 2020) was an Italian doctor and politician. Biography Giorgio Carta was born in Jerzu. He graduated in medicine in 1964 and obtained three specialist qualifications: cardiology, gastroenterology and occupational medicine. He published 19 scientific papers, achieving national accreditation certificates as a primary cardiologist. He worked as a sports doctor and professor of medicine applied to sport; from 1983 he was also a journalist. Gian Franco Schietroma
Gian Franco Schietroma (born 19 October 1950 in Rome) is an Italian politician and lawyer. He is the son of the former Senator and Minister of Public Function Dante Schietroma. Biography Gian Franco Schietroma graduated in law, with 110/110 cum laude, from the "La Sapienza" University of Rome. He worked as a lawyer and in the 1990-1991 period he was President of the Lawyers' order of Frosinone. He was honorary Deputy Praetor of Frosinone from 1980 to 1989. Ottaviano Del Turco
Ottaviano Del Turco (born 7 November 1944) is an Italian politician. Early life Del Turco was born in Collelongo on 7 November 1944. Career After a career in trade unionism in the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), Del Turco rose to the top of Bettino Craxi's Italian Socialist Party (PSI) before it was swept away in the Tangentopoli scandals of 1992–94.
