Islam In Singapore
Practitioners of Islam make up about 15.6% of Singapore's residents, according to the 2020 census. Islam is the third largest religion in the country, after Buddhism and Christianity. Over four-fifths of Singaporean Muslims are ethnic Malays, while 13 percent are Indian. The remaining proportion is composed of local Chinese, Eurasian, and Arab communities, as well as foreign migrants. The majority of Muslims in Singapore are Sunni Muslims who follow the Shafi‘i or the Hanafi school of thought. Legal history Since the introduction of Islam in the region, Islamic bureaucracy formed an integral part of Malay Sultanates' administrative systems. In the 1500s, the Sultanate of Melaka was recorded to have practiced Sharia. This was practice was continued by the Melaka Sultanates' successor state, the Johore Sultanate, of which Singapore was a part until 1824. Hajjah ( ar, حَجَّة, Ḥajjah) is the capital city of Hajjah Governorate in north-western Yemen. It is located 127 kilometres northwest of Sana'a, at an elevation of about 1800 metres. As of 2003, the Hajjah City District had a population of 53,887 inhabitants. Etymology According to Arab traditions, the name Hajjah came from Hajjah Ibn Aslam Ibn Ali Ibn Hashid. A qāḍī ( ar, قاضي, Qāḍī; otherwise transliterated as qazi, cadi, kadi, or kazi) is the magistrate or judge of a '' sharīʿa'' court, who also exercises extrajudicial functions such as mediation, guardianship over orphans and minors, and supervision and auditing of public works. The Singapore Islamic Hub ( Abbreviation: SIH; Malay: ''Hab Islam Singapura''; Jawi: هاب اسلام سيڠاڤورا) is a religious campus that houses Masjid Muhajirin, Madrasah Irsyad Zuhri Al-Islamiah and the headquarters of Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (Muis). These institutions combined (mosque, madrasa and majlis) create a cohesive and symbiotic whole, embodies the Islamic principles of Iman, Ilmu and Amal (''Faith, Knowledge and Deeds'') respectively. It was named after Sultan Hussain Shah. In 1975, it was designated a national monument. Opening The mosque was two-thirds complete and was formally opened on 27 December 1929. The mosque was fully completed in 1932. The Sultan Mosque has stayed essentially unchanged since it was built, with only repairs carried out to the main hall in 1968 and an annex added in 1993. It was gazetted as a national monument on 8 March 1975. The mosque is currently managed by its own Board of Trustees and Management Board.
