Islam In Sweden
Islam in Sweden refers to the practice of Islam in Sweden, as well as historical ties between Sweden and the Islamic world. Viking contact with Islam dates back to the 7th–10th centuries, when the Vikings traded with Muslims during the Islamic Golden Age. Since the late 1960s and more recently, immigration from predominantly Muslim countries has impacted the demographics of religion in Sweden, and has been the main driver of the spread of Islam in the country. The Muslim community in Sweden hails from numerous countries, making it a complex and heterogeneous population. According to a 2019 report from the Swedish Agency for Support to Faith Communities, there were 200,445 Muslims in Sweden who practiced their religion regularly; this count came from those registered with Islamic congregations. Antifaschistische Aktion
''Antifaschistische Aktion'' () was a militant anti-fascist organisation in the Weimar Republic started by members of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) that existed from 1932 to 1933. It was primarily active as a KPD campaign during the July 1932 German federal election and the November 1932 German federal election and was described by the KPD as a "red united front under the leadership of the only anti-fascist party, the KPD." Rosengård
Rosengård (literally "Rose Manor") was a city district ( sv, stadsdel) in the center of Malmö Municipality, Sweden. On 1 July 2013, it was merged with Husie, forming Öster. In 2012, Rosengård had a population of 23,563 of the municipality's 307,758. Its area was 332 hectares. Rosengård is often incorrectly referred to as a suburb, although the area is located centrally in Malmö, neighbouring the former city district Centrum. Long a destination for immigrants, 86% of the population had some foreign ancestry in 2008. 2008 Malmö Mosque Riots
On December 18 and 20, 2008, the closure of an Islamic cultural centre that housed a mosque in the Herrgården neighborhood of the Malmö district of Rosengård, in southern Sweden, caused hundreds of youths to riot against police. The riot, thought to have been the first of several 21st century youth riots in Sweden, was described by police at the time as "most violent riots we had ever encountered." Rioting Rioting was sparked when the owner of a building in Rosengård decided not to renew the lease on the space used by the Islamiska Kulturföreningen (The Islamic Culture Association). Muslim Council Of Sweden
The Muslim Council of Sweden ( sv, Sveriges muslimska råd, SMR) is an umbrella organisation of Islamic organisations in Sweden. It was founded in 1990 by representatives of the United Islamic Parishes in Sweden ( sv, Förenade islamiska församlingar i Sverige, FIFS) and the Muslim Association of Sweden ( sv, Sveriges Muslimska Förbund, SMuF). The current chairperson of the organisation is Helena Benaouda, who succeeded Mostafa Kharraki. Fittja Mosque
The Fittja Mosque ( sv, Fittja moské) is a mosque in Fittja, Botkyrka Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. It was constructed with Turkish style architecture. The mosque, which began to be constructed in 1998http://www.botkyrka.se/omkommunen/pejlpabotkyrka/artiklar2004-2006/24397.html (in Swedish) and was completed in April 2007, is owned by the Islamic Cultural Association in Botkyrka, a mainly Turkish association with more than 1,500 members. The mosque is built in Turkish-style architecture, with a windowed mid-dome with birch wood panel and hand-painted tiles that cover the walls of the prayer room. The mosque minaret is 32.5 meters high. In the central prayer room, the women have their place of prayer on a 200 square meter high stand. Uppsala Mosque
The Uppsala Mosque () is a small but very frequented mosque located in the Kvarngärdet neighbourhood of Uppsala in Sweden. At the time of construction, it was mistakenly claimed to be the northernmost mosque in the world (Saint Petersburg was). It is still the northernmost mosque in Sweden. Malmö Mosque
The Malmö Mosque () is the second oldest mosque in Sweden. It is located in Jägersro villastad, a neighbourhood in Husie, Malmö. It was inaugurated on 20 April 1984 and is administered by the organization Islamic Center. Adjacent to the mosque is a charter school, which is also run by the Islamic Center. There have been several attacks against the mosque, including an arson attack on 28 April 2003, which damaged the mosque and destroyed other buildings at the Islamic Center.
