''Irish America'' is a bi-monthly periodical that aims to cover topics relevant to the Irish in North America including a range of political, economic, social, and cultural themes. The magazine’s inaugural issue was published in October 1985. ''Irish America'' focuses on political and business leaders, organizations, artists, writers and community figures among the Irish in America through its annual lists, awards, and events including the Wall Street 50, Business 100, and Stars of the South. Patricia Harty (journalist)
Patricia Harty is an Irish-American journalist, author and editor. She is the editor-in-chief and co-founder of ''Irish America Magazine''. Biography Patricia Harty co-founded ''Irish America Magazine'' along with publisher Niall O'Dowd in October 1985. Among Harty's many interviews in the past 25 years are Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney, Wall Street guru Peter Lynch, best-selling author Pat Conroy, Hollywood legend Gregory Peck, 2015 Nobel Prize in Medicine recipient William Campbell, and corporate titan Jack Welch. In 2017 Harty was honored with the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish abroad and in 2009 she received the Ambassador Award from the St. Patrick's Committee of Holyoke, Massachusetts for her work "to promote the relationship between the people of the Republic of Ireland and the people of the United States." Jerry Brown
Edmund Gerald Brown Jr. (born April 7, 1938) is an American lawyer, author, and politician who served as the 34th and 39th governor of California from 1975 to 1983 and 2011 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected Secretary of State of California in 1970; Brown later served as Mayor of Oakland from 1999 to 2007 and Attorney General of California from 2007 to 2011. He was both the oldest and sixth-youngest governor of California due to the 28-year gap between his second and third terms. Irish America Hall Of Fame
The Irish America Hall of Fame was founded by Irish America magazine in November 2010. It recognizes extraordinary figures in the Irish American community who have had a profound effect on the Irish in America and strengthened the bonds between the United States and Ireland. The Irish America Hall of Fame is the centerpiece of the Dunbrody (2001) Famine Ship's new Emigration History Visitor Center in New Ross, Co. Wexford. Niall O'Dowd
Niall O'Dowd (born 18 May 1953) in County Tipperary, Ireland, is an Irish American journalist and author living in the United States. He was involved in the negotiations leading to the Northern Irish Good Friday Peace Agreement. He is founder of ''Irish Voice'' newspaper and ''Irish America'' magazine in New York City, as well as overseeing ''Home and Away'' newspaper. He is also the founder of ''IrishCentral'', an Irish website which he launched in March 2009. Early life O'Dowd was born in Thurles, County Tipperary in Ireland but moved to Drogheda when he was nine. After attending Drogheda CBS and Gormanston College, he was a student at University College Dublin, gaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. He emigrated to the United States in June 1978.
