The Iris Awards ( es, Premios Iris, known until 2011 as ATV Awards, es, Premios de la Academia de TV, links=no/''Premios ATV'') are television awards given by the Spanish Academy of Television and Audiovisual Arts and Sciences. History The awards were created in 1998, when Antonio Mercero was at the helm of the academy. The first ceremony was held in February 1999. In 2012, they were renamed to Iris Awards, upon a suggestion brought forward by deceased academy member . The award's design was also modified, bringing a statuette representing an eye which simulates a camera diaphragm. Prior to that, the design consisted of a statuette designed by representing a Victory of Samothrace. The Academy of Television and Audiovisual Arts and Sciences (Spanish: ) is a Spanish non-profit organization created in 1997 to bring together audiovisual professionals and companies with the aim of defending the quality, independence and autonomy of the television industry in the country. The academy presents annually the Iris Awards to recognize excellence in Spanish television production. History The Academy of Sciences and Television Arts of Spain () was a project launched at the end of 1996 by a group of television professionals led by Jesús Hermida. On 28 January 1997, the founding act was signed and, after several months of work by the different commissions, on 30 October 1997, the constituent General Assembly was held. Antonio Mercero
Antonio Mercero Juldain (7 March 1936 – 12 May 2018) was a Spanish director of the television series ''Verano azul'' and ''Farmacia de guardia''. He is best known as the director of a 1972 surrealist short horror film titled ''La cabina'', which won an Emmy Award. His 1998 film ''A Time for Defiance'' was entered into the 21st Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Special Silver St. George. In 2010, he was awarded an Honorary Goya Award (Goya de Honor). He died on 12 May 2018 in Madrid at the age of 82 after a battle against Alzheimer's. ''ABC'' () is a Spanish national daily newspaper. It is the second largest general-interest newspaper in Spain, number one in Madrid, and the oldest newspaper still operating in Madrid. In optics, a diaphragm is a thin opaque structure with an opening (aperture) at its center. The role of the diaphragm is to ''stop'' the passage of light, except for the light passing through the ''aperture''. Thus it is also called a stop (an aperture stop, if it limits the brightness of light reaching the focal plane, or a field stop or flare stop for other uses of diaphragms in lenses). The diaphragm is placed in the light path of a lens or objective, and the size of the aperture regulates the amount of light that passes through the lens. The centre of the diaphragm's aperture coincides with the optical axis of the lens system. Winged Victory Of Samothrace
The ''Winged Victory of Samothrace'', or the ''Nike of Samothrace'', is a votive monument originally found on the island of Samothrace, north of the Aegean Sea. It is a masterpiece of Greek sculpture from the Hellenistic era, dating from the beginning of the 2nd century BC. It is composed of a statue representing the goddess Niké (Victory), whose head and arms are missing, and its base in the shape of a ship's bow. The total height of the monument is 5.57 meters including the socle; the statue alone measures 2.75 meters. The sculpture is one of a small number of major Hellenistic statues surviving in the original, rather than Roman copies.
