Irina Mikhailovna Of Russia
Irina Mikhailovna (russian: Ирина Михайловна; 22 April 1627 – 8 April 1679), was a Russian Tsarevna, the eldest daughter of Tsar Michael of Russia from his second marriage to Eudoxia Streshneva, a noblewoman from Mozhaysk. She was the elder sister of Alexis of Russia. Biography Irina was baptized in the Chudov Monastery by her grandfather Patriarch Filaret. In 1640, Irina was engaged to marry Valdemar Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. Valdemar arrived in Russia for the wedding in 1644, but after arriving in Russia he refused to convert to the Orthodox faith. Valdemar was imprisoned until 1645, when he was allowed to leave Russia. Irina never married. Irina was close to her brother, Tsar Alexis, who mentions her before his wife and children in his letters and seem to have regarded her as the first lady of the family. The House of Romanov (also transcribed Romanoff; rus, Романовы, Románovy, rɐˈmanəvɨ) was the reigning imperial house of Russia from 1613 to 1917. They achieved prominence after the Tsarina, Anastasia Romanova, was married to the First Tsar of Russia, Ivan the Terrible. Feodor Nikitich Romanov (russian: Фео́дор Ники́тич Рома́нов, ; 1553 – 1 October 1633) was a Russian boyar who after temporary disgrace rose to become patriarch of Moscow as Filaret (russian: Филаре́т, ), and became de facto ruler of Russia during the reign of his son, Mikhail Feodorovich. Biography The second son of the prominent boyar Nikita Romanovich, Feodor was born in Moscow and was the first to bear the Romanov surname. During the reign of his first cousin Feodor I (1584–1598), young Feodor Romanov distinguished himself both as a soldier and a diplomat, fighting against the forces of John III of Sweden in 1590, and conducting negotiations with the ambassadors of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor from 1593 to 1594.
