Interstate 19
Interstate 19 (I-19) is a north–south Interstate Highway located entirely within the US state of Arizona. I-19 travels from Nogales, roughly from the Mexican border, to Tucson, at I-10. The highway also travels through the cities of Rio Rico, Green Valley, and Sahuarita. Having a total length of just over , I-19 is the seventh-shortest primary (two-digit) Interstate Highway in the contiguous 48 states, where only I-87 (North Carolina), I-97, I-86 (Idaho), I-14, I-11, and I-2 are shorter. While the highway is short, it is a very important corridor, serving as a fast route from Tucson and Phoenix (via I-10) to the Mexican border. Nogales, Arizona
Nogales (English: or , ; ) is a city in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. The population was 20,837 at the 2010 census and estimated 20,103 in 2019. Nogales forms part of the larger Tucson–Nogales combined statistical area, with a total population of 1,027,683 as of the 2010 Census. The city is the county seat of Santa Cruz County. Nogales forms Arizona's largest transborder agglomeration with its adjacent, much larger twin Nogales, Sonora, across the Mexican border. The southern terminus of Interstate 19 is located in Nogales at the U.S.–Mexico border; the highway continues south into Mexico as Mexico Federal Highway 15. Interstate 2
Interstate 2 (I-2) is a partially completed Interstate Highway running through the Lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. It begins at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 (US 83) and Business U.S. Highway 83 (Bus. US 83) in Peñitas and heads eastward before terminating at I-69E/ US 77/US 83 in Harlingen. For its entire length, I-2 runs concurrently with US 83. I-2 also parallels Mexican Federal Highway 2 (Fed. 2), another major east–west route that traces the Mexico-U.S. border along the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. When completed, the western terminus will be the city of Laredo. The route is one of the more recently designated Interstate Highways; it was signed as an Interstate in 2013. Arizona State Route 289
State Route 289 (SR 289) is a highway in Santa Cruz County, Arizona that runs from its junction with Interstate 19 (old ) to the north of Nogales, to Peña Blanca Lake. It is an east–west route. Route description SR 289 is a highway that serves Peña Blanca Lake, passing through sparsely inhabited territory. It does not pass through any cities or towns. From its eastern terminus at the frontage road nearly east of the I-19 interchange, the highway heads in a western direction before curving towards the southwest. The highway eventually curves back towards the west until it turns north towards the lake. State Route 189 (SR 189) is a highway in Santa Cruz County, Arizona that runs from its junction with Interstate 19 to the US-Mexico Border. It is a north–south route for its entirety. Standards for Interstate Highways in the United States are defined by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) in the publication ''A Policy on Design Standards: Interstate System''.
