Icononzo
Icononzo () is a municipality located in the department of Tolima in Colombia. The average temperature is 21°F (-6°C), altitude 1304 metres (4278'). History In 1875 there was the community of Guamitos inherited by Don Vicente Reyes Daza. During the colonial era and by the year 1888, Adrian Lords Escobar, Guillermo Quijano, Alberto Williamson and others arrived and created a small community along the road leading to Guamitos, half an hour way. By the Ordinance No. 3 of July 16 of that year it was instituted as "Corregimiento Icononzo". By the year 1892, Mr. Reyes Daza and Williamson began the assembly of the estates Canada and Scotland. Labor supply in the region constituted by the problem of housing shortages, resulting in problems of invasion. Atlantis (commune)
The Atlantis Primal Therapy Commune, or The Atlantis Foundation, is a commune established in Ireland in 1974. It is also known as The Screamers because of their practice of primal scream therapy. The commune moved to Colombia in 1989, where they increasingly focused on ecological concerns. Two of its members, one a grandson of the founder, were killed by Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels in 2000. History Englishwoman Jenny James (born 1942) established The Atlantis Commune in a three-storey house in Burtonport, a village in The Rosses district in the west of County Donegal, in 1974, moving there from another primal commune in London. The name 'Atlantis' came from Burtonport's location on the Atlantic coast and from the legend of Atlantis. The Municipalities of Colombia are decentralized subdivisions of the Republic of Colombia. Municipalities make up most of the departments of Colombia with 1,122 municipalities (''municipios''). Natural Bridge
A natural arch, natural bridge, or (less commonly) rock arch is a natural landform where an arch has formed with an opening underneath. Natural arches commonly form where inland cliffs, coastal cliffs, fins or stacks are subject to erosion from the sea, rivers or weathering ( subaerial processes). Most natural arches are formed from narrow fins and sea stacks composed of sandstone or limestone with steep, often vertical, cliff faces. The formations become narrower due to erosion over geologic time scales. The softer rock stratum erodes away creating rock shelters, or alcoves, on opposite sides of the formation beneath the relatively harder stratum, or caprock, above it. The alcoves erode further into the formation eventually meeting underneath the harder caprock layer, thus creating an arch. La Violencia
''La Violencia'' (, The Violence) was a ten-year civil war in Colombia from 1948 to 1958, between the Colombian Conservative Party and the Colombian Liberal Party, fought mainly in the countryside. ''La Violencia'' is considered to have begun with the assassination on 9 April 1948 of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, a Liberal Party presidential candidate and frontrunner for the 1949 November election. His murder provoked the ''Bogotazo'' rioting, which lasted ten hours and resulted in around 5,000 casualties. An alternative historiography proposes the Conservative Party's return to power following the election of 1946 to be the cause. Rural town police and political leaders encouraged Conservative-supporting peasants to seize the agricultural lands of Liberal-supporting peasants, which provoked peasant-to-peasant violence throughout Colombia. Bogotazo
El Bogotazo (from "Bogotá" and the ''-azo'' suffix of violent augmentation) refers to the massive riots that followed the assassination in Bogotá, Colombia of Liberal leader and presidential candidate Jorge Eliécer Gaitán on 9 April 1948 during the government of President Mariano Ospina Pérez. The 10-hour riot left much of downtown Bogotá destroyed. The aftershock of Gaitan's murder continued extending through the countryside and escalated a period of violence which had begun eighteen years before, in 1930, and was triggered by the fall of the conservative party from government and the rise of the liberals. The 1946 presidential elections brought the downfall of the liberals allowing conservative Mariano Ospina Pérez to win the presidency.
