Iceland In The Eurovision Song Contest 1993
Iceland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 by Inga with the song "Þá veistu svarið". Inga was the winner of the Icelandic national final, '' Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 1993'', organised by Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). Before Eurovision Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 1993 The final was held on 20 February 1993 at the RÚV studios in Reykjavík, hosted by Steinn Ármann Magnússon. 10 songs competed, with the winner being selected by the votes of nine juries - eight regional juries and a final professional jury. The winner was "Þá veistu svarið" performed by Ingibjörg Stefánsdóttir. The song was composed by Jon Kjell Seljeseth and Friðrik Sturluson. At Eurovision Ingibjörg, now as Inga, performed 9th on the night of the contest, held in Millstreet, Ireland, following Malta and preceding Austria. Söngvakeppnin
Söngvakeppnin (known from 1986–1989 as Söngvakeppni sjónvarpsstöðva and in 1981, 1983 and 1990–2012 as Söngvakeppni sjónvarpsins, literally "The Television's Song Contest") is an annual music competition organised by Icelandic public broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). It determines the for the Eurovision Song Contest. Format The contest was first organised in 1981, although neither it nor its subsequent 1983 edition were used to determine any Eurovision Song Contest representatives until Iceland made its ESC debut in 1986. Since then, RÚV has used Söngvakeppni sjónvarpsins to select the Icelandic entry, but has also used an internal selection at times, between 1995 and 1999 and in 2004, 2005 and 2021. Anna Mjöll Ólafsdóttir is an Icelandic jazz singer and songwriter. Early years Anna was born in Reykjavík, Iceland, the daughter of Svanhildur Jakobsdóttir, singer and TV and Radio Personality, and Ólafur Gaukur, Jazz guitarist, Film Composer, songwriter, arranger and Producer. Anna's only sibling, Andri, is a General Surgeon in Arizona. Anna's parents played six nights a week in her early years. They toured every summer bringing in dancers, fire eaters and magicians from England. Anna began studying guitar herself at the age of six, followed by piano and cello. She wrote and performed her first song when she was eight. In high school she performed jazz numbers on her cello and at 18 she started singing professionally in local restaurants. Millstreet
Millstreet () is a town in north County Cork, Ireland, with a population of 1,555 (as of 2016). Millstreet is within the civil parish of Drishane, and within a Poor Law Union also called Millstreet. The Millstreet Union encompasses the civil parishes of Drishane and Kilcorney. Geography The town is at the foot of Clara Mountain.
