The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) is a for-profit company that hosts several of the biggest Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) tournaments in the world, including the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, World No-Gi Championship, Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship, and European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship. World Jiu-Jitsu Championship
The World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship (commonly known as the Worlds or Mundials) is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held once every year by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. It is widely considered to be the most important and prestigious jiu-jitsu tournament of the year. The first edition took place in February 1996 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Asian Open Championship (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)
The Asian Championship is the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in Asia by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. History The Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship has been held since 2006 with the first tournament taking place in Tokyo, Japan. In 2008, the championship moved to Bangkok, Thailand, its 2010 third edition was held in Amman, Jordan. The fourth edition was held on the 15th & 16 July 2012 in Doha, Qatar. As of 2013 forwards the championship is hosted annually in Tokyo Japan. For the 2017/2018 season it carried a weighting of 3 in the IBJJF tournament list. Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ; pt, jiu-jitsu brasileiro ) is a self-defence martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting (ne-waza) and submission holds. BJJ focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one's opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds. Brazilian jiu-jitsu was initially developed in 1926 by Brazilian brothers Carlos, Oswaldo, Gastão Jr., George, and Hélio Gracie, after Carlos was taught jiu-jitsu by a travelling Japanese judoka, Mitsuyo Maeda who himself mastered his ground fighting while interacting with Taro Miyake (Tanabe student), Sadakazu Uyenishi (Handa, Tanabe) and Yukio Tani (Tenjin Shinyo-ryu) and catch wrestlers in Europe. The European Championship or European Open (officially called the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship) is the most prestigious and largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in Europe by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). The tournament is an open championship accepting competitors from all countries. The IBJJF gives tournaments weighting which helps calculate the number of points an athlete can win via their participation. For the 2017/2018 IBJJF calendar the European Championship has a weighting of 4 alongside the Pan-American Championship (jiu-jitsu) making it second in importance only to the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship which has a weighting of 7. The Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pan American Championship (commonly known as Pan Ams or Pans), is the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in North America. The event is held annually by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
