Iztok Božič
Iztok Božič (born 27 September 1971) is a former professional tennis player from Slovenia. He is also a former captain of the Slovenia Fed Cup team. Biography Early years Božič, who was born in Maribor, began playing tennis at the age of seven. As a junior, he reached the round of 16 at the 1989 Australian Open, and also partnered with Patrick Rafter in the boys' doubles. ATP career In the early 1990s, he began competing professionally and is notable for being the first Slovenian player to be ranked in the world's top 200. He was the runner-up at the Kosice Challenger in 1994 and appeared twice in the main draw of ATP Tour tournaments, both times as a qualifier. Iztok Čop
Iztok Čop (born 17 June 1972) is a Slovenian rower and Olympic gold medalist. Biography Čop was born in Kranj, SR Slovenia, and started rowing at the age of 13 in Bled, where Slovenia's best rowing club is located. Originally rowing in the coxless pairs, Čop finished second in the World Championships in 1991, and won Bronze at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 with Denis Žvegelj (the first Olympic medal for independent Slovenia). He then switched to the single scull, winning gold at the 1995 World Championship, but came fourth at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He then changed to the men's double sculls with Luka Špik, and won the 1999 World Championships, and gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, which was the first Olympic gold medal for Slovenia since its independence. Iztok Geister (born 20 August 1945) is a Slovene writer, poet, essayist and ornithologist. He is best known for his avant-garde poetry from the mid-1960s and 1970s. He is also one of the founding members of the Slovenian branch of BirdLife International. Geister was born in Laško in 1945. Iztok Jarc
Iztok Jarc (born 21 August 1963) is a Slovenian diplomat and politician. From 2007 to 2008 he served as Minister of Agriculture of Slovenia. He was serving as an ambassador of Slovenia in the United Kingdom from 2008 to 2013. Early life and career Jarc was born in the town of Novo Mesto, but spent most of his youth in the nearby Lower Carniolan village of Prečna, where his parents worked as farmers. He attended grammar school in Novo Mesto, enrolling in the University of Ljubljana in 1982. He studied at the Faculty of Social Sciences graduating from international relations in 1987. Iztok Mlakar
Iztok Mlakar (born 21 June 1961) is a Slovenian singer-songwriter and theatre actor. Styled as the "bard of the Slovenian Littoral", he is best known for his ironic chansons in the Littoral dialect of Slovene. Together with Adi Smolar, Mlakar is among the best-known singer-songwriters in Slovenia since 1990. He was born in Postojna in western Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia), and spent his youth in the town of Nova Gorica on the border with Italy. His parents were from Cerkno, and Mlakar composed several songs in the distinctive Cerkno dialect of his parents' native region. Career After graduating from the Nova Gorica Grammar School, Mlakar studied acting at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana, graduating from the drama program in 1986. Iztok Osojnik
Iztok Osojnik (born 27 July 1951) is a Slovene poet and essayist. Between 1997 and 2004 he was the director of the Vilenica International Literary Festival organized by the Slovene Writers' Association. Osojnik was born in Ljubljana in 1951. He studied comparative literature at the University of Ljubljana under the supervision of the literary historian and philosopher Dušan Pirjevec. In his college years he collaborated with the poet Jure Detela and sociologist Iztok Saksida in publishing their ''Podrealistični manifest'' (The Sub-Realist Manifesto) in 1979 and later participated in the avantgarde group ''Pisarna Aleph'' (Aleph Office). Between 1980 and 1982 he continued his graduate studies at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan. Iztok Puc (14 September 1966 – 20 October 2011) was a Croatian-Slovenian handball player, who was one of the world's top players of the 1980s and 1990s. During his career he played professionally for Borac Banja Luka, Zagreb, Celje and Prule 67. He won a total of 18 domestic trophies. He has won the elite EHF Champions League in 1992 and 1993, both times with Zagreb. He is one of very few handball players who represented three different countries at the Summer Olympics (Yugoslavia, Croatia and Slovenia), winning bronze with Yugoslavia in 1988 and gold with Croatia in 1996. In 2009, he was named the best overall player in the history of Slovenian handball. The star was given the formal name Irena by the International Astronomical Union in January 2020. It is invisible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 9.4 The star is located at a distance of approximately 446 light years from the Sun based on parallax, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −9 km/s. The star is known to host one exoplanet, designated WASP-38b or formally named 'Iztok'. The stellar classification of HD 146389 is F8, which is an F-type star of uncertain luminosity class. The age of the star is uncertain. It shows a low lithium abundance, which suggests an age of more than 5 billion years. However, the rotation rate indicates an age closer to one billion.
