Ivor Allchurch
Ivor John Allchurch (16 October 1929 – 10 July 1997) was a Welsh professional association football, footballer who played as an inside forward. Known as the "Golden Boy of Welsh football", Allchurch began his career playing for his hometown side Swansea City A.F.C., Swansea Town, where he spent over 10 years, Captain (association football), captaining the side for several seasons and scoring over 100 goals in all competitions. He attracted attention from numerous clubs during his early years with Swansea, but chose to remain with the club until the age of 28, when he joined Football League First Division, First Division side Newcastle United F.C., Newcastle United. Signing in 1958 for a fee of £28,000, he formed a prolific strike partnership with George Eastham and Len White. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. It comprises five classes of awards across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom#Modern honours, knight if male or a dame (title), dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with the order, but are not members of it. Len Allchurch
Leonard Allchurch (12 September 1933 – 16 November 2016) was a Welsh professional footballer. Allchurch played in the English Football League for almost twenty years, playing in the top flight with Sheffield United and having lengthy spells with Swansea City and Stockport County. A Welsh international, he was born in Swansea and was the brother of fellow international Ivor Allchurch. He had the distinction of never receiving a booking or a caution throughout his entire Football League career. Club career Allchurch began his career with Swansea Town and, having signed professional terms in October 1950, he made his debut at the age of 17. With Sheffield United manager John Harris looking to reignite their faltering promotion push he offered £12,000 for Allchurch but the deal was rejected. The National Service (Armed Forces) Act 1939 ( 2 & 3 Geo. 6. c. 81) was enacted by the Parliament of the United Kingdom on 3 September 1939, the day the United Kingdom declared war on Germany at the start of the Second World War. Joe Sykes (footballer)
Joe Sykes (1898 – 1974) was an English professional footballer who played for Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea Town. Having spent the majority of his young adulthood in the armed forces, Sykes joined Sheffield in 1919, before moving to Swansea in 1924. He spent the rest of his career with the Swans, becoming club captain and leading his side to their first ever promotion as champions of a division in 1925. Sykes finished playing in 1935 after making 345 league appearances for Swansea. He returned to the club after the Second World War to work as a trainer and a scout, and later caretaker manager.
