Ivo Whitton
Ivo Harrington Whitton (9 December 1893 – 2 July 1967) was an Australian amateur golfer, who, along with Greg Norman, is the only Australian to have won the Australian Open five times (1912, 1913, 1926, 1929 and 1931). Early life Whitton was born in Moonee Ponds, Victoria, his father Percy Whitton was a senior public servant. The younger Whitton took up golfing at the age of 14, joining his father in the Caulfield Golf Club (later the Metropolitan Golf Club) the next year, and winning the club championships three times. In 1911, he began working at a wool broking firm which allowed him time off to play golf during the off-season. In 1914, he competed at The Amateur Championship at Royal St George's Golf Club. He returned to Australia but then came back to England during World War I to serve with the Royal Garrison Artillery after being rejected by the Australian Imperial Force.A. G. L. Australian Men's Interstate Teams Matches
The Australian Men's Interstate Teams Matches were an amateur team golf competition for men between the states and territories of Australia. The event started in 1904 when New South Wales played Victoria. Until World War II the event was played as part of the championship meeting which included the Australian Amateur. It was not until 1947 that all six states, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia, contested the event together. Northern Territory first played in 2015 increasing the number of teams to seven. The final format was a round-robin tournament, each team playing the other six teams, after which the top two teams play a final. Each team consisted of eight players. Seven competed in each round-robin match with all eight playing in the final. Only singles matches were played. Kirk-Windeyer Cup
The Kirk-Windeyer Cup was an amateur team golf tournament, played between New Zealand and individual states of Australia. It was played annually from 1927 to 1930, then in 1932 and, finally, in 1934. New Zealand and New South Wales played in all six contests but the other states only entered occasionally. New Zealand and New South Wales each won the event three times. The cup was established by Richard Clement Kirk, the president of the New Zealand Golf Association, and William Archibald Windeyer, an Australian golf administrator. Format The final consisted of two foursomes matches followed by four singles matches. Originally matches were over 18 holes and the cup was completed in a single day. However, from 1929 matches were extended to 36 holes with foursomes on the first day and singles on the second day. All matches were played out to the full 18 or 36 holes. The Queensland Open is a golf tournament held in Queensland, Australia as part of the PGA Tour of Australasia. It was founded in 1925. The event was not held from 2008 to 2012 but returned as a PGA Tour of Australasia event in 2013. Trophy The winner receives the T. B. Hunter Cup. The trophy was donated by Thomas Brown Hunter in 1939, the winner to retain it for a year and receive a replica. The trophy was inscribed with the name of the previous winners. Hunter was secretary of Brisbane Golf Club from 1910 to 1938 and also secretary of the Queensland Golf Association. He won the Queensland Amateur Championship in 1913. The Riversdale Cup is the second oldest amateur golf tournament in Australia. It is a Golf Australia national ranking event. The event has been played since 1896 and is organised by and played at the Riversdale Golf Club in Mount Waverley, Victoria. It was known as the Surrey Hills Gentlemen's Championship, Gold Medal from 1896 to 1907, the Riversdale Trophy from 1909 to 1926, and the Riversdale Cup since 1928.
