Ive Šubic
Ive Šubic (23 April 1922 – 29 December 1989) was a Yugoslav painting, painter, Graphic designer, graphic artists and illustrator. Šubic was born in the village of Hotovlja near Poljane nad Škofjo Loko, Poljane above Škofja Loka in 1922. He enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, Zagreb Academy of Arts in 1940, but his studies were interrupted by the Second World War. He joined the Slovene Partisans, partisans in 1941 and participated in the Battle of Dražgoše, the monument to which he later participated in designing. After the war he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Ljubljana, Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana under Gojmir Anton Kos and Božidar Jakac. He graduated in 1948. He is known for his paintings, linocuts and other prints, illustrations and murals. He died in Škofja Loka in 1989. Hotovlja
Hotovlja (; ''Leksikon občin kraljestev in dežel zastopanih v državnem zboru,'' vol. 6: ''Kranjsko''. 1906. Vienna: C. Kr. Dvorna in Državna Tiskarna, p. 60.) is a settlement on the right bank of the Sora (river), Poljane Sora River, opposite Poljane nad Škofjo Loko, in the Municipality of Gorenja Vas–Poljane in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. Mile Klopčič
Mile Klopčič (16 November 1905 - 19 March 1984) was a Slovenian poet and translator. Together with Tone Seliškar, he is considered as the foremost representative of Slovene social realist poetry of the 1930s and 1940s. He was born in the town of L'Hôpital (), France, then part of the German province of Alsace-Lorraine, where his father worked as industrial workers. At the outbreak of World War I, the family moved to the industrial town of Zagorje ob Savi. He attended high school in Ljubljana. In 1920, he joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. During the reign of King Alexander I of Yugoslavia, he was imprisoned as a political opponent of the regime. During World War II, he joined the partisan resistance, and became the chairman of the Commission for Culture in the Slovenian National Liberation Council (SNOS). France Planina
France Planina (29 September 1901 – 14 January 1992) was a Slovene geographer and cartographer. Planina was born in Škofja Loka in 1901. He graduated from the University of Ljubljana in 1925 and taught in secondary schools in Otočac, Kranj and Ljubljana. During the Second World War he was interned in the Gonars concentration camp. After the war he continued to teach and also worked at the Natural History Museum of Slovenia. He retired in 1962. He died in Ljubljana in 1992. Josip Jurčič (4 March 1844 – 3 May 1881) was a Slovene writer and journalist. He was born in Muljava, Austrian Empire (now part of the municipality of Ivančna Gorica, Slovenia)Levec, Fran. 1881. France Bevk
France Bevk () (17 September 1890 – 17 September 1970) was a Slovene writer, poet and translator. He also wrote under the pseudonym Pavle Sedmak. Biography Bevk was born in the mountain village of Zakojca (Coizza during Italian rule, now part of the Municipality of Cerkno) in the County of Gorizia and Gradisca of what was then the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now in Slovenia. Dhan Gopal Mukerji (; ''Dhan Gōpāl Mukhōpādhyāy'') (6 July 1890 – 14 July 1936) was the first successful Indian man of letters in the United States and won a Newbery Medal in 1928. Ferdo Godina
Ferdo Godina (17 October 1912 – 14 July 1994) was a Slovene writer and partisan. He was one of the early activists in the battle against the Hungarian occupation of Prekmurje during the Second World War. He wrote novels and short stories and was also a prolific writer for children and young adults. Godina was born in 1912 in Dolnja Bistrica in what was then the Slovene March of the Kingdom of Hungary and part of Austria-Hungary and is part of Prekmurje in Slovenia. He joined the partisans in 1941. He wrote mostly short stories, socially sensitive and often written in the first-person narrative. He also published numerous works for young readers. Kristina Brenk
Kristina Brenk née Vrhovec, also known as Kristina Brenkova (22 October 1911 – 20 November 2009) was a Slovene writer, poet, translator and editor, best known for her books for children. Brenk was born in Horjul in what was then Austria-Hungary in 1911. She studied psychology and pedagogy at the University of Ljubljana and obtained her doctorate in 1939. During the Second World War she joined the Slovene Liberation Front. From 1949 until her retirement in 1973 she worked as an editor at the ''Mladinska Knjiga'' publishing house. In 1999 she received the Levstik Award for her lifetime achievement in children's writing. Ivo Zorman
Ivo Zorman (3 May 1926 – 14 January 2009) was a Slovene writer and editor. He wrote short stories and novels as well as radio plays. Zorman was born in the village of Gora near Komenda in central Slovenia in 1926. He went to school in Ljubljana and as a young man participated in the Slovene resistance and joined the Partisans. After the war he worked as a teacher for a while and then an editor until his retirement in 1977. He often used themes from his experiences in the war in his work. One of his best-known novels is ''Draga moja Iza'' (Μy Dear Iza) which was made into a film in 1979. He died in Kamnik in 2009.
