Ivan Pešić (handballer)
Ivan Pešić (born 17 March 1989) is a Croatian handball goalkeeper for HBC Nantes. The first few years as a player played Pešić in his hometown Rijeka in RK Zamet and with production license in Croatian second division club RK Senj. He then played for the Hungarian club MKB Veszprém KC, with which he won in the 2008/09 season, league and cup, as well as the Croatian first division club RK Zagreb, with whom he won three times the double. In 2012 he joined the Slovenian club RK Maribor Branik . After one season, he signed with the Belarusian club HC Meshkov Brest, with whom he again champion and cup winner was, 2014. At a dance hall in February 2009 some Hungarian-Romani people attacked Pešić and teammate Marian Cozma with a knife. Pešić was so badly injured by a knife that he had to remove a kidney. Magyar Kupa (men's Handball)
Magyar Kupa (English: Hungarian Cup) is the main domestic cup for Hungarian men's team handball clubs, which is organized and supervised by the Hungarian Handball Federation. The competition is held annually, starting in September and concluding in April. The teams play in a one-leg knockout system with a final four tournament in the end. The winner of the Hungarian cup get the right to participate in the next year's EHF Cup Winners' Cup, unless they secure a place in the EHF Champions League. Croatian Premier Handball League
The Croatian Handball Premier League () is the highest men's handball league in Croatia. It is organized by the Croatian Handball Federation (''Hrvatski rukometni savez''). The league comprises 16 teams. The league was formed in 1991 with the dissolution of the Yugoslav leagues. Format In the first phase, eight teams from two groups compete in a home-and-away round-robin series. All teams advance from the regular season to one of two postseason stages, depending on their league position. The top four teams from the regular season play in the Championship Round, while the bottom four teams play in the Relegation Round. 2011 World Men's Handball Championship
The 2011 World Men's Handball Championship, the 22nd event hosted by the International Handball Federation, was held in Sweden from 13 to 30 January 2011. All matches were played in Malmö, Lund, Kristianstad, Gothenburg, Skövde, Jönköping, Linköping and Norrköping. 2009 World Men's Handball Championship
The 2009 World Men's Handball Championship was the 21st edition of the tournament that took place in Croatia from 16 January to 1 February, in the cities of Split, Zadar, Osijek, Varaždin, Poreč, Zagreb and Pula. Croatia was selected from a group of four potential hosts which included the Czech Republic, Greece and Romania. The opening game and ceremony were held in Split, and the final game was played in Zagreb. France won the tournament after defeating Croatia in the final. Žarko Šešum
Žarko Šešum (; born 16 June 1986) is a retired Serbian handball player. Club career Born in Bačka Palanka, Šešum started out at his hometown club Sintelon. He was promoted to the senior squad in the 2002–03 season, at age 16. In early 2007, Šešum was transferred to Hungary and signed with MKB Veszprém. He helped the side win three consecutive championships, though his time there was somewhat marred by an assault in a nightclub in 2009, in which he was injured and teammate Marian Cozma was stabbed to death. In 2010, Šešum moved to Germany and joined Rhein-Neckar Löwen, spending the next four years with the club. He subsequently played for fellow German team Frisch Auf Göppingen from 2014 to 2018, winning two successive EHF Cup titles (2016 and 2017). Marian Cozma
Marian Cozma (8 September 1982 – 8 February 2009) was a Romanian handball player. He was born in Tei, Bucharest and died in Veszprém, Hungary after being attacked and stabbed in a nightclub fight. During his career he played for HC Dinamo București and KC Veszprém and he was also a member of the Romanian national handball team. Career Cozma began his handball career in HC Dinamo București. His father, Petre was also a handball player, and he guided his son to the sport. He played in the Dinamo first squad from 2002 to 2006 and won the Romanian championship with the club in the 2004–2005 season. During his time at Dinamo, Cozma was once attacked and stabbed near his house by a group of fanatic supporters of a rival team. "They asked me if I'm Cozma from Dinamo and then one of them stabbed me in the back", he said.
