Italy–Slovenia Relations
Italian-Slovene relations are foreign relations between the Italian Republic and the Republic of Slovenia. The two countries share -long border, notably traversing the cross-border urban area of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The border also includes a panhandle where the Italian city of Trieste is located on the Adriatic Sea, surrounded by Slovenia in three directions. Italy and Slovenia established diplomatic relations in 1992. Italy has an embassy in Ljubljana and a consulate in Koper. Slovenia has an embassy in Rome and consulates in Trieste, Florence, and Milan. Both countries are full members of the European Union and NATO. In addition to the autochthonous minorities, the Istrian Italians in Slovenia and the Slovene Italians in Italy, there are around 3,200 people of Slovenian descent living in Italy . Italy–Yugoslavia relations (; sh-Latn-Cyrl, Odnosi Italije i Jugoslavije, Односи Италије и Југославије; ; ) are the cultural and political relations between Italy and Yugoslavia in the 20th century, since the creation of Yugoslavia in 1918 until its dissolution in 1992. Since Slovenia declared independence in 1991, its Government of Slovenia, Governments have underscored their commitment to improving cooperation with neighbouring countries and actively contributing to international efforts aimed at bringing stability to Southeast Europe. Resource limitations have nevertheless been a problem hindering the efficiency of the Slovenian diplomacy. Slovene minority in Italy (, ), also known as Slovenes in Italy (, ) is the name given to Italy, Italian citizens who belong to the autochthonous Slovenes, Slovene ethnic and linguistic minority living in the Italian autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
