Italian DOC Wine
The following four classification of wine, classifications of wine constitute the Italy, Italian system of labelling and legally protecting Italian wine: * ''Denominazione di origine'' (DO, rarely used; ; 'designation of origin'); * ''Indicazione geografica tipica'' (IGT; ; 'indication of geographical typicality'); * ''Denominazione di origine controllata'' (DOC; ; 'controlled designation of origin'); and * ''Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita'' (DOCG; ; 'controlled and guaranteed designation of origin'). The system was introduced in 1963 shortly after the Treaty of Rome established Italy as a founding member of the European Economic Community, and was modelled on the extant French ''appellation d'origine contrôlée'' (AOC) laws. A geographical indication (GI) is a name or sign used on products which corresponds to a specific geographical location or origin (e.g., a town or region). The use of a geographical indication, as an indication of the product's source, is intended as a certification that the product possesses certain qualities, is made according to traditional methods, or enjoys a good reputation due to its geographical origin. Reserve Wine
Reserve wine is wine of a higher quality than usual, a wine that has been aged before sale, or both. Traditionally, winemakers would reserve some of their best wine rather than sell it immediately, coining the term. In some countries the use of the term "reserve", "''reserva''" or "''riserva''" is regulated, but in many places it is not. According to Italian wine laws, ''riserva'' indicates additional aging. Sometimes, reserve wine originates from the best vineyards, or the best barrels. Reserve wines may be made in a style suited to longer aging periods. In regions where the use is not regulated, the presence of the term "reserve" on a wine label may be a marketing strategy, without specific criteria. Barbaresco
Barbaresco is an Italian wine made with the Nebbiolo grape. Barbaresco is produced in the Piemonte (wine), Piedmont region in an area of the Langhe immediately to the east of Alba, Italy, Alba and specifically in the ''comune''s of Barbaresco (CN), Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive plus that area of the frazione San Rocco Seno d'Elvio which was once part of the ''comune'' of Barbaresco and now belongs to the ''comune'' of Alba. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a red wine with a '' denominazione di origine controllata e garantita'' status produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montepulciano, Italy. The wine is made primarily from the Sangiovese grape varietal (known locally as ''Prugnolo gentile'') (minimum 70%), blended with Canaiolo Nero (10%–20%) and small amounts of other local varieties such as Mammolo. Brunello di Montalcino is a red DOCG Italian wine produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montalcino, in the province of Siena, located about 80 km south of Florence, in the Tuscan wine region. Brunello, a diminutive of ''bruno'' (), is the name that was given locally to what was believed to be an individual grape variety grown in Montalcino.
