Istog
Istog ( sq-definite, Istogu; sr-Cyrl-Latn, Исток, Istok) or Burim is a town and municipality located in the District of Peja of western Kosovo. According to the 2011 census, the city of Istog has 5,115 inhabitants, while the municipality has 39,289 inhabitants. Based on the population estimates from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics in 2016, the municipality has 39,982 inhabitants. Name The name of the town comes from the version of the Serbian word ''istok'' (variant ''istek''), meaning "well, water source" referring to the springs of the Istočka river (, literally "spring river"), a tributary to the White Drin river. The name of the nearby village of Vrela, one of the largest settlements in the municipality, also means "springs". Ilir Ferati
Ilir Ferati (born 19 December 1988) is a politician in Kosovo. He served in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo from 2019 to 2021 and has been the mayor of Istog since 2021. Ferati is a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). He is the son of Fadil Ferati, who served as mayor of Istog from 2001 until his death in 2010. Early life and private career Ferati was born to a Kosovo Albanian family in Istog, in what was then the Socialist Autonomous Province of Kosovo in the Socialist Republic of Serbia, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He was raised in the community and later graduated from the American University in Kosovo in public policy and management. Fadil Ferati
Fadil Ferati (10 May 1960 – 30 January 2010) was a Kosovar political leader, he was the Mayor of Istok and vice-president of Democratic League of Kosovo and he was widely known as a politician who never lost any election. Biography Born in Istok, Ferati finished primary school in Gurrakoc, municipality of Istok, middle School - Gymnasium in Istok and the Faculty of Economics at the University of Prishtine and graduated in 1985. After graduation, he worked as an accountant in an undisclosed Istok private enterprise from 1988 to 1990. Azdren Gani Llullaku (born 15 February 1988) is an Albanian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Liga III club Gloria Bistrița-Năsăud. Club career Early career Llullaku was born on 15 February 1988 in Istok. Abdul-Qader Arnaout ( , 1928–26 November 2004), born ''Kadri Sokoli'' was an Albanian Islamic scholar who specialised in the fields of hadith and fiqh. Biography Born into a Muslim Albanian family in Istog on the year 1928, which was a part of Yugoslavia but now is located in modern day Kosovo. His family spoke in the local Gheg dialect of the Albanian language. His family migrated to Syria after his birth due to persecution from the Yugoslavian government. A municipality (; ) is the basic administrative division in Kosovo and constitutes the only level of power in local governance. Ibrahim Rugova
Ibrahim Rugova (; 2 December 1944 – 21 January 2006) was a Kosovo Albanians, Kosovo-Albanian politician, scholar, and writer, who served as the President of the partially recognised Republic of Kosova, serving from 1992 to 2000 and as President of Kosovo from 2002 until his death in 2006. He oversaw a popular struggle for independence, advocating a peaceful resistance to Yugoslavia, Yugoslav rule and lobbying for U.S. and European support, especially during the Kosovo War. He founded the political party Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) in 1989. The LDK, which had the support of 90% of the ethnic Albanian population of Kosovo, advocated for Kosovo's independence by peaceful means. White Drin
The White Drin or White Drim (; , ) is a river in Kosovo and northern Albania, a ca. long headstream of the Drin. Course Kosovo The Kosovo section of the White Drin flows entirely in the semi-karst part of Kosovo, in an arc-shaped -long course. The river originates in the southern slopes of the Zhleb mountain, north of the town of Peja. The river springs near the Bukuroshja e Fjetur Cave. The cave is multi-levelled, not much explored and has a lake inside. The water from the spring was used by the Peja brewery. The stream is originally a sinking river which eventually springs out from the strong well and falls down as a -high waterfall named the White Drin Waterfall near the village of Radac, away from Peja. Peja
Peja or Peć, ), is the fifth most populous city in Kosovo and serves as the seat of the Peja Municipality and the District of Peja. It is located in the Rugova region on the eastern section of the Accursed Mountains along the Peja's Lumbardh in the western part of Kosovo. In medieval times, the city was under Byzantine, Bulgarian and Serbian rule. After its integration into Serbian territory, it became the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church in 1346.
