Issa Hayatou
Issa Hayatou (9 August 1946 – 8 August 2024) was a Cameroonian sports executive, athlete, and football administrator best known for serving as the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) between 1988 and 2017. He served as the acting FIFA president until 26 February 2016 as the previous president Sepp Blatter was banned from all football-related activities in 2015 as a part of the that year's FIFA corruption investigation. In 2002, he ran for president of FIFA but was defeated by Blatter. He was also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In November 2010 he was alleged by the BBC to have taken bribes in the 1990s regarding the awarding of World Cup television rights. Overview The half-hour programme saw investigative journalist Andrew Jennings look into allegations of corruption with FIFA, the world's governing body of association football. Within the programme, Jennings alleged that three members of FIFA's executive committee had received bribes by International Sports and Leisure, a marketing partner of FIFA. The three men Nicolas Leoz, Issa Hayatou, and Ricardo Teixeira were reportedly involved with a sports marketing firm responsible for broadcasting rights, from which they were alleged to have received payments. Andrew Jennings (3 September 1943 – 8 January 2022) was a British investigative reporter. He was best known for his work investigating and writing about corruption in the IOC and FIFA. Early life Jennings was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, on 3 September 1943. His father worked as a school headmaster; his mother was a housewife. He was the grandson of a former Clapton Orient player. His family relocated to London when he was a child. Jennings attended the University of Hull, and first worked at the ''Burnley Evening Star''. Career Jennings became part of the ''Sunday Times''' Insight team during the late 1960s. He went on to work as an investigative reporter on BBC Radio Four's ''Checkpoint'', probing into cocaine trafficking and murders carried out by the Sicilian Mafia. Hubert Velud (born 8 June 1959) is a French football manager and former player, who is currently the manager of Moroccan club AS FAR. Playing career Velud was born in Villefranche-sur-Saône. Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor (; born 26 February 1984) is a Togolese former professional footballer who played as a striker. A terrorist attack occurred on 8 January 2010 as the Togo national football team traveled through the Angolan province of Cabinda on the way to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, two days before it began in Angola. A little-known offshoot of the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC), a group promoting independence for the province of Cabinda, known as the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda – Military Position (FLEC-PM), claimed responsibility for the attack. Bus driver Mário Adjoua, the team's assistant manager Améleté Abalo, and media officer Stanislas Ocloo were killed, with several others injured.
