Al Bell (born Alvertis Isbell; March 15, 1940) is an American record producer, songwriter, and record executive. He is best known as having been an executive and co-owner of Stax Records, based in Memphis, Tennessee, during the latter half of the label's 19-year existence. Lynne A. Isbell (born 1955) is an American ethologist and primatologist, professor of anthropology at the University of California, Davis. Isbell has served as President of the American Society of Primatologists and is the originator of the snake detection theory, which suggests that snakes have contributed to the evolution of the visual system of primates. Early life Isbell grew up in Compton, California. At school, she had the ambition to become a veterinarian, but was inspired to take an interest in primatology by Jane Goodall’s book ''In the Shadow of Man'' (1971). Hurricane Isbell
Hurricane Isbell was the final hurricane to affect the United States during the 1964 season. The eleventh tropical storm and sixth hurricane of the season, Isbell developed from a dissipating cold front in the southwestern Caribbean on October 8. The depression initially remained disorganized as it track northwestward, but strengthened into Tropical Storm Isbell on October 13. Re-curving northeastward, Isbell quickly strengthened further and reached hurricane status by later that day. Late on October 13, Isbell made landfall in the Pinar del Río Province of Cuba. The storm continued strengthening and peaked as a Category 3 hurricane on the following day. Isbell moved northeastward and made landfall near Everglades, Florida, late on October 14. After reaching the Atlantic on the following day, the storm began to weaken. The Geologists Range is a mountain range about long, standing between the heads of Lucy and Nimrod Glaciers in Antarctica. Virginia Isbell (May 8, 1932 - September 19, 2019) was a former educator and politician on Hawaii Island. Isbell was born in Montana. Her father was an immigrant from Italy while her mother was born in the United States. She married Donald Isbell in 1953. They moved to Hawaii in 1960. Career After a career as a teacher, Isbell became a community volunteer and served from 1980 to 1996 in the Hawaii House of Representatives for district 4, later redistricted to number 5. In the 1991–1994 sessions she was chair of the housing committee. Originally in the Republican Party of Hawaii, Isbell switched to the Democratic Party of Hawaii in 1988. In 1996 she ran for Mayor of Hawaii County but lost. She ran again for the state house but lost in 1998 and 2000 to Paul Whalen. In 2002 she ran against Whalen for the Hawaii Senate 3rd district, but lost. Marion William Isbell (August 12, 1905 – October 20, 1988) was an American restaurateur and founder of Ramada Inns, Inc. Biography Isbell was born to Benjamin Franklin Isbell in Whitehaven, Tennessee upon his passing in 1905 he was orphaned with his two brothers Howard James and Leon (?) before he was 5. The brothers were placed in an orphanage briefly and then resided with relatives in Memphis. He worked throughout his childhood, first in the Isbell rice fields in England, Arkansas, after dropping out of school he worked as an errand boy. At 16, he moved to Chicago to work as a dishwasher, cook and soda jerk. He first got into the restaurant business in 1934, opening the first Isbell's Restaurant. In 1929, Isbell took a cross-country trip with his wife, Ingrid, when he had the idea of building comfortable roadside inns. Larry Isbell
Lawrence Dale Isbell (January 8, 1930 – October 31, 1978) was an American baseball and gridiron football player. He was one of the rare players to be All-American in both baseball and in football. He was an All-American quarterback in 1951, when he guided the Baylor Bears football team to the Orange Bowl; he threw for 26 career touchdowns in college. In 1952, he was named the All-American catcher by the American Baseball Coaches Association. That season, he set a school record with a .431 average; through 2008, he still ranked second in Baylor Bears baseball annals for best single-season average, behind Mickey Sullivan. Isbell played minor league baseball for the Boston Red Sox and Brooklyn Dodgers organizations.
