Isabel Pires
Isabel Cristina Rua Pires (born 21 June 1990) is a Portugal, Portuguese politician and former member of the Assembly of the Republic (Portugal), Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. A member of the Left Bloc (Portugal), Left Bloc, she has represented Lisbon (Assembly of the Republic constituency), Lisbon from October 2015 to March 2022 and Porto (Assembly of the Republic constituency), Porto from September 2023 to March 2024. She had also been a temporary Substitute (elections), substitute member of the Assembly from February 2023 to August 2023. Early life Pires was born on 21 June 1990 in Vila Nova de Gaia. She lived in Gaia until she was 19 when she moved to Lisbon to study. 2017 Lisbon Local Election
The 2017 Lisbon local election was held on 1 October 2017 to elect the members of the Lisbon City Council. Against a fractured opposition, Fernando Medina, mayor since the resignation of António Costa in 2015, was elected for a full term, defeating Assunção Cristas ( CDS-PP leader) and Teresa Leal Coelho ( PSD). Despite the victory, the Socialist Party lost its majority by one seat, having to rely of the Left Bloc's support. The Unitary Democratic Coalition presented former MEP João Ferreira again and achieved similar results, and that guaranteed two Communist councilors.
