Irish Experiment
The Irish Experiment is the popular name for the interest, primarily from VFL/AFL clubs, in bringing Irish sportspeople, particularly Gaelic footballers, to Australia to play Australian rules football professionally. The AFL's focus on Gaelic footballers is due to the similarities between the sports. Brownlow Medal
The Charles Brownlow Trophy, better known as the Brownlow Medal (and informally as Charlie), is awarded to the best and fairest player in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the home-and-away season, as determined by votes cast by the four officiating field umpires after each game. It is the most prestigious award for individual players in the AFL. It is also widely acknowledged as the highest individual honour in the sport of Australian rules football. The medal was first awarded by the Victorian Football League (VFL). It was created and named in honour of Charles Brownlow, a former Geelong Football Club footballer (1880–1891) and club secretary (1885–1923), and VFL president (1918–19), who had died in January 1924 after an extended illness. All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) () is the premier inter-county competition in Gaelic football. County (Gaelic games), County teams compete against each other and the winner is declared All-Ireland Champions. Organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the championship has been contested every year except one since 1887 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, 1887. The final is played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. Harry Beitzel
Henry John "Harry" Beitzel (6 April 1927 – 13 August 2017) was an Australian football umpire, print, radio and television sports broadcaster and media personality best known for his contribution to Australian rules football. Early sporting life Harry attended Melbourne's University High School. He along with fellow schoolboy (future cricket test captain) Neil Harvey developed their skills for both football and cricket. Both boys were left-hander batsmen and together share many high scoring partnerships. Both boys joined the Fitzroy Cricket Club and Beitzel won the second grade batting averages. While Harvey's cricket blossomed, Beitzel's seemed to stall. Beitzel played football with Fitzroy seconds in 1944 and he was part of the premiership team. The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football club based in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray. Cora Staunton
Cora Staunton (born 13 December 1981) is an Irish sportswoman. She is best known as a ladies' Gaelic footballer, winning four All-Irelands and three Ladies' National Football League titles with Mayo. She has also been an All Star on eleven occasions. In addition to playing Gaelic football, Staunton has also played three other football codes at a senior level. In 2006, as an association footballer, she won an FAI Women's Cup winner's medal with the Mayo Ladies' League representative team. Ailish Considine
Ailish Considine (born 9 July 1992) is an Irish former Australian rules footballer who played for Adelaide and North Melbourne in the AFL Women's. After playing ladies' Gaelic football and camogie for the Clare county teams in her native Ireland, Adelaide drafted Considine as a rookie signing. She made her debut in the one-point loss to the at Norwood Oval in the opening round of the 2019 season. She was the first Irish female to become a Premiership Player with the Adelaide Crows in 2019 when they defeated Carlton in the grand final at a full capacity Adelaide Oval.
