Irepodun, Kwara State
Irepodun is a Local Government Area in Kwara State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is in the town of Omu-Aran. The local government is located on 8.5381º N, 5.1431º E. It has an area of 737 km and a population of 148,610 at the 2006 census. It has very significant Yoruba cultural and historical significance. And is populated by the Igbomina people. The people of Ifelodun are Yorubas and mostly of Igbomina origin with roots in Ife, Oyo and Ketu. Much of the Ifelodun domain was overtaken by the Afonja/Alimi era and annexed to the present Ilorin enclave. It has an area of 3,435km and includes at least 80 villages and towns including Idofian, Okanle, Jimba Oja, Koko-Araromi, Ilota, Arugbo, Igbo-Owu, and Amodu. Omu-Aran
Omu-Aran the Head Post of Igbomina land, is a town in the Nigerian state of Kwara. It originated from Ife and currently the local government headquarters of Irepodun local government. Omu-Aran is about 8 kilometers away from Aran-Orin. History Omu-Aran was founded over 500 years ago. The community was founded due to the migration of people from Ile-Ife. There was a drought in Ile-Ife. To know the cause of the drought, the oracle was consulted. The oracle said Ife was over-crowded and therefore some people had to leave. Some princes were selected to migrate to other places and were given the symbol of authority. One of the selected princes was Olomu-Aperan, the founder of Omu-Aran. Omutoto or Omitoto, one of the wives of Olofinaiye Oduduwa was the mother of both Olomu Aperan and Owa Obokun. This tradition is accepted in Ilesha and Ile Ife today. Igbomina People
The Ìgbómìnà (also colloquially Igboona or Ogboona) are a subgroup of the Yoruba people, Yoruba ethnic group, which originates from the north central and southwest Nigeria. They speak a dialect also called Yoruba language, Ìgbómìnà or Igbonna, classified among the Central Yoruba of the three major Yoruba dialectical areas. The Ìgbómìnà spread across what is now southern Kwara State and northern Osun State. Peripheral areas of the dialectical region have some similarities to the adjoining Ekiti people, Ekiti, Ijesha and Oyo Empire, Oyo dialects.
