The Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) is the affiliate of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Iowa. The party organizes the Democratic Iowa caucuses, Iowa presidential caucuses. In recent years, the party has lost ground in the state. It currently has no members of Congress from Iowa, superminorities in both houses of the state legislature, and 1 out of 7 statewide elected officials. Rita Hart
Rita Hart (born May 5, 1956) is an American politician and retired educator who served as an Iowa Senate, Iowa State Senator from the Iowa Senate, District 49, 49th district from 2013 to 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. In the Iowa gubernatorial election, 2018, 2018 gubernatorial election, Hart ran for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, lieutenant governor of Iowa on the Democratic ticket, with running mate Fred Hubbell. The Iowa caucuses are quadrennial electoral events for the Democratic and Republican parties in the U.S. state of Iowa. Chester John Culver (born January 25, 1966) is an American politician who served from 2007 through 2011 as the 41st governor of Iowa. A member of the Democratic Party, he had previously served as the 29th Secretary of State of Iowa from 1999 to 2007. Harold Everett Hughes (February 10, 1922 – October 23, 1996) was an American politician who served as the 36th Governor of Iowa from 1963 until 1969, and a United States senator from Iowa from 1969 until 1975. He began his political career as a Republican but changed his affiliation to the Democratic Party in 1960. Early years Hughes was born in 1922 in Ida Grove, Iowa to Lewis C.
