Iognáid G. Ó Muircheartaigh
Iognáid G. Ó Muircheartaigh is an Irish academic who served as president of NUI Galway between 2000 and 2008. The Ó Muircheartaigh Hall in the university's sports centre is named in his honour. Early life and education From County Kerry, he attended an Irish-speaking school, Colaiste Mhuire, on Dublin's Parnell Square. He then attended University College Dublin. He earned a PhD in statistics at the University of Glasgow, and he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship at Stanford University, and a US National Academy of Sciences Senior Research Associateship at the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Academic career During his term as president, NUI Galway conferred honorary doctorates on Nelson Mandela, Louise Arbour, Sr. Helen Prejean, Richard Goldstone, Philippe Kirsch, Pius Langa and Cyril Ramaphosa. Stobart Air was an Irish regional airline based in Dublin, originating in 1970 and closing in 2021. It operated scheduled services under the brands Aer Lingus Regional, BA CityFlyer and KLM Cityhopper on behalf of their respective owners. Stobart Air had operating bases in Cork, Dublin and Belfast for Aer Lingus Regional. The airline originated as Aer Arann, providing services from Galway to the Aran Islands in 1970, and in the 1990s grew into a regional airline, with Aer Arann Regional based in Dublin. Pius Langa
Pius Nkonzo Langa SCOB (25 March 1939 – 24 July 2013) was Chief Justice of South Africa from June 2005 to October 2009. Formerly a human rights lawyer, he was appointed as a puisne judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa upon its inception in 1995. He was the Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa from November 2001 until May 2005, when President Thabo Mbeki elevated him to the Chief Justiceship. He was South Africa's first black African Chief Justice. The son of a Zulu pastor, Langa left school as a teenager to enter the workforce. Over the next two decades, he studied for his matric certificate while working in a clothing factory and then studied for his legal qualifications while working as a civil servant in the Department of Justice. He left the civil service at the rank of magistrate in 1977, when he was admitted as an advocate.
