Ioannis Kapodistrias
Count Ioannis Antonios Kapodistrias (; February 1776 –27 September 1831), sometimes anglicized as John Capodistrias, was a Greek statesman who was one of the most distinguished politicians and diplomats of 19th-century Europe. Kapodistrias's involvement in politics began as a minister of the Septinsular Republic in the early 19th century. He went on to serve as the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Russia), foreign minister of the Russian Empire from 1816 until his abdication in 1822, when he became increasingly active in supporting the Greek War of Independence that broke out a year earlier. Ioannis Filimon
Ioannis Filimon (; 1798/99–1874) was a 19th-century Greek historian, militant journalist, and publisher of the newspaper ''Aion'' for more than fifteen years, from 1838 to 1854. He also participated actively in the Greek Revolution of 1821. His work entitled "Essay on the history of Filiki Eteria" was first published in 1834, a fact that makes Filimon one of the first historians of modern Greece. Filimon, intending to write the first general history of the Greek Revolution, tried to unfold the history of the Filiki Eteria, a secret revolutionary organization, in order to emphasize its leading role in the conception and dissemination of the idea of freedom and to restore its forgotten connection with the Revolution. Although he managed to gather several sources, Filimon stated that they were not enough to write a true story of Filiki Eteria. Ioannis Bourousis, commonly known as Giannis Bourousis (alternate spelling: Yannis, Greek: Ιωάννης "Γιάννης" Μπουρούσης; born November 17, 1983) is a Greek former professional basketball player and basketball executive. He is the general manager of the Greek basketball club ASK Karditsa. During his playing career, at a height of 7 ft in (2.15 m) tall and a weight of 270 lb. (122 kg), Bourousis played at the center position. Ioannis Apakas
Ιoannis Apakas (; mid 1500s – early 1600s), also known as Johann Apakass, was a Greek painter and priest, active in the later 16th and early 17th centuries. The Italo-Byzantine style of his first paintings evolved under the influence of more refined works by Cretan school and Venetian artists. In his maturity, Apakas showed stylistic affinities with Michael Damaskinos, Georgios Klontzas, Victor of Crete and Leos and Elias Moskos. Apakas was a popular artist in his day. Ten of his paintings have survived, and are featured in public foundations, private collections, churches and monasteries, mostly in Greece. Ioannis Demestichas
Ioannis Demestichas (, 1882–1960) was a Hellenic Navy officer. He is best known for his participation in the Macedonian Struggle under the ''nom de guerre'' of Kapetan Nikiforos (Καπετάν Νικηφόρος). He held various senior commands in the Greek Navy, including thrice as Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, and also served briefly in cabinet positions. Ioannis Frangoudis
Ioannis Frangoudis (; 1863 – 19 October 1916) was a Greek Cypriot Military officer, athlete and Olympic shooter. He served in the Hellenic Army reaching the rank of Colonel, and represented the kingdom of Greece in the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athen. Frangoudis is the only Greek athlete who has won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in a single Olympic. Biography Frangoudis was born in Zakynthos, Greece, while his family originated from Limassol, Cyprus, which was under Ottoman Empire at that time. He graduated from the Hellenic Military Academy in 1885, and worked his way up the ranks of the Greek army, being a captain at the time of the 1896 Olympics. After the Greco-Turkish war of 1897, he had become a colonel, and a friend of King George I of Greece. Ioannis Alevras (; 1912 – 6 April 1995), sometimes spelled Yannis Alevras, was a Greek Panhellenic Socialist Movement politician and Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, who served as acting President of Greece in March 1985. Syndicalist Before becoming a politician, Alevras was employed at the Bank of Greece. He was a prominent syndicalist and a key figure in the foundation of OTOE (Federation of Bank Employee Organizations of Greece) in 1955. OTOE united all relevant trade unions along the lines of craft unionism with Alevras at its head for several years. John Plagis
Ioannis Agorastos "John" Plagis, DSO, DFC & Bar (1919–1974) was a Southern Rhodesian flying ace in the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War, noted especially for his part in the defence of Malta during 1942. The son of Greek immigrants, he was accepted by recruiters only after Greece joined the Allies in late 1940. Following spells with No. 65 Squadron and No. 266 (Rhodesia) Squadron, he joined No. 249 (Gold Coast) Squadron in Malta in March 1942. Flying Spitfire Mk Vs, Plagis was part of the multinational group of Allied pilots that successfully defended the strategically important island against numerically superior Axis forces over the next few months. Ioannis Doukas
Ioannis Doukas or Dukas (, 1841–1916) was a Greek painter and one of the main representatives in 19th century portrait painting in Greece. Life Doukas was born in 1841, in Gjirokastër (then Ottoman Empire, modern Albania). He started his studies in art at the School of Fine Arts of Athens, Greece, in 1859. He continued his studies outside Greece: initially in the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1865-1868), being a student of the German painter Karl von Piloty. He then moved to Paris and became student of Jean-Léon Gérôme. Doukas worked as painter in a number of western European cities: Paris, Marseille and Vienna, where he became distinguished in the painting of portraits. At 1879 he returned to Greece, while continued to be focused in portrait painting. Doukas attended several artist's exhibitions in Greece and abroad, such as the Paris Salon.
