A valley is an elongated low area often running between hills or mountains, which will typically contain a river or stream running from one end to the other. Most valleys are formed by erosion of the land surface by rivers or streams over a very long period. Some valleys are formed through erosion by glacial ice. These glaciers may remain present in valleys in high mountains or polar areas. At lower latitudes and altitudes, these glacially formed valleys may have been created or enlarged during ice ages but now are ice-free and occupied by streams or rivers. In desert areas, valleys may be entirely dry or carry a watercourse only rarely. Intervale is an unincorporated community in Carroll County, New Hampshire, located on the boundary between the towns of Bartlett and Conway in the White Mountains Region. The village is part of the Mount Washington Valley, a resort area that also includes the communities of North Conway and Jackson. The village has a separate ZIP code (03845) from surrounding communities in the Bartlett/Conway area. Intervale is found along U.S. Route 302 and New Hampshire Route 16 at their intersection with Hurricane Mountain Road, north of the center of North Conway. New Hampshire Route 16A leads north from Intervale through the village of Lower Bartlett. The Intervale Avenue station (formerly the Intervale Avenue–163rd Street station) is a local metro station, station on the IRT White Plains Road Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of Intervale and Westchester Avenues in Longwood, Bronx, it is served by the train at all times, and the train at all times except late nights and rush hours in the peak direction.
