Interpol (band)
Interpol is an American Rock music, rock band from Manhattan, New York. Formed in 1997, their original line-up consisted of Paul Banks (American singer), Paul Banks (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Daniel Kessler (guitarist), Daniel Kessler (lead guitar, backing vocals), Carlos Dengler (bass guitar, keyboards), and Greg Drudy (drums). Drudy left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Sam Fogarino. Dengler left to pursue other projects in 2010, with Banks taking on the additional role of bassist instead of hiring a new one. Having first performed at Luna Lounge alongside peers such as the Strokes, Longwave (band), Longwave, The National (band), the National, and Stellastarr, Interpol is one of the bands associated with the Music of New York City, New York indie music scene and one of several groups that emerged from the post-punk revival of the 2000s. Daniel Kessler (guitarist)
Daniel Alexander Kessler (born September 25, 1974) is an English-born American musician who is the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the New York City-based band Interpol. Biography Interpol Kessler was born in London, England. It was his desire to play in a band which made him approach Carlos Dengler, with whom he attended a history class in New York University. Kessler knew lead singer Paul Banks from a summer program in Paris, France, and asked him to join the band when he ran into him in New York. Kessler's dormmate Greg Drudy was Interpol's first drummer. When Drudy left the band, Kessler asked his friend Sam Fogarino to replace him. Kessler had prior experience in the music industry while working for Domino Recording Company, and his knowledge of the business was very helpful to the band in their early years. Stellastarr (styled as stellastarr*) is an American indie rock band based in New York City consisting of Shawn Christensen (vocals, rhythm guitar), Amanda Tannen (bass, vocals), Arthur Kremer (drums, percussion, keyboards), and Michael Jurin (lead guitar, vocals). History The band was formed in March 2000 from a previous musical effort, the band Ghistor, formed while studying art and design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. A few years later, after a chance meeting with Jurin, who had recently relocated to Brooklyn and had left his former band Charlotte's Funeral behind in his hometown of Philadelphia, the former classmates reunited, this time with Christensen on vocals. ''Turn On the Bright Lights'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Interpol. It was released in the United Kingdom on August 19, 2002, and in the United States the following day, through independent record label Matador Records. The album was recorded in November 2001 at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and was co- produced, mixed and engineered by Peter Katis and Gareth Jones. Its title is taken from a repeated line in the song " NYC". Upon release, the record peaked at number 101 on the UK Albums Chart. It reached number 158 on the ''Billboard'' 200 in the United States, as well as spending 73 weeks on the ''Billboard'' Independent Albums chart, peaking at number five. The Chameleons are an English rock band formed in Middleton, Greater Manchester, in 1981. The band's classic line-up consisted of bassist and vocalist Mark Burgess (now known as Vox), guitarists Reg Smithies and Dave Fielding, and drummer John Lever. The band released their debut studio album, '' Script of the Bridge'', in 1983. They followed it with '' What Does Anything Mean? Basically'' and '' Strange Times'' in 1985 and 1986, respectively, before abruptly breaking up in 1987 due to internal tensions and the sudden death of the band's manager.
