International Center For Tropical Agriculture
The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (known as CIAT from its Spanish-language name ) is an international research and development organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger while protecting natural resources in developing countries. It is based in Palmira, Colombia, where it employs over 300 scientists. CIAT is one of the 14 agricultural research centers of the CGIAR. The Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice), formerly known as the West Africa Rice Development Association (WARDA), is a pan-African intergovernmental association and a CGIAR Research organization, currently headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. AfricaRice is an agricultural research center that was constituted in 1971 by 11 West African countries. By 2023, the center counted 28 African member states. Global Rice Science Partnership
The Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP), also known as the ''CGIAR'' ''Research Program on Rice'', is an initiative of the CGIAR to bring together research and development partners from around the world to undertake and deliver rice research. Launched in November 2010, GRiSP aims to "dramatically improve the ability of rice farmers to feed growing populations in some of the world's poorest nations". Genetic diversity is the total number of genetic characteristics in the genetic makeup of a species. It ranges widely, from the number of species to differences within species, and can be correlated to the span of survival for a species. It is distinguished from '' genetic variability'', which describes the tendency of genetic characteristics to vary. Genetic diversity serves as a way for populations to adapt to changing environments.
